Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred, and the degree must be ABET accredited.
  • Two to five years of Mechanical Engineering experience are required for Level II.
  • CAD experience is required; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to perform occasional climbing or hands-on testing activities.
  • Ability to work in office, shop, and vehicle environments as needed.
  • Ability to work safely around energized systems when required.
  • Ability to travel as needed on occasion.
  • Ability to work safely in manufacturing and testing environments and use required personal protective equipment.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for consideration, along with compliance with Federal Contractor employee requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Independently design mechanical subsystems and assemblies for assigned projects.
  • Own mechanical design tasks end-to-end for small- to mid-sized subsystems.
  • Create complete, production-ready drawings and documentation.
  • Participate hands-on in prototype builds and failure investigations.
  • Release designs to manufacturing and support early production.
  • Apply codes, standards, and best practices with minimal oversight.
  • Support manufacturing troubleshooting and resolve moderate design issues.
  • Participate actively in design reviews and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Perform basic system-level testing and validation.
  • Estimate effort, manage priorities, and meet engineering schedules.
  • Communicate with manufacturing, supply chain, and peers.
  • Design, develop, and support mechanical systems for vehicles and platforms.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, safety standards, and customer requirements.
  • Answer manufacturing technical questions, resolve build issues, and improve design clarity.
  • Participate in design reviews, testing, validation, and root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Project Management teams.
  • Apply continuous improvement principles to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Create CAD documentation for top-level assemblies, subassemblies, and parts.
  • Use finite element analysis to analyze stress, create verification tests, document analysis, and optimize designs.
  • Create, implement, supervise, and document tests verifying that designs meet customer requirements.
  • Complete production analyses, documentation, and drawings within agreed engineering schedules.
  • Communicate with vendors and clients to troubleshoot designs and obtain component specifications, drawings, and models.
  • Track and record work hours for each project daily.
  • Travel as needed by management.
  • Perform additional assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • SolidWorks experience.
  • Experience with fluid mechanics, materials, structures, dynamics, basic electrical theory, and machine component design.
  • Expertise in raw material selection, welding, machining, sheet metal, quality control, and cost mitigation.
