Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience in sports instruction, coaching, or recreation coordination is required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are required.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain both within 30 days of hire, is required.
  • Availability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedules is required.
  • The ability to stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, or crouch frequently during sports activities is required.
  • The ability to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds is required.
  • The ability to work in indoor gymnasium and outdoor field environments, including varied weather conditions, is required.
  • The ability to demonstrate and participate in sports drills and physical activity as needed is required.
  • Sufficient physical fitness to respond to emergency situations quickly and appropriately is required.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and supervise youth and adult sports programs while promoting a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.
  • Organize and run youth and adult basketball leagues and sports programs.
  • Teach two to three youth afternoon sport classes.
  • Assist with the registration process.
  • Oversee adult leagues, including participant communications about scheduling, team records, payments, and postseason activities.
  • Collect team fees, rosters, and waivers.
  • Issue YMCA league rules and league uniforms.
  • Ensure proper equipment and gym time for adult leagues.
  • Develop and implement fundraising events involving adults and build rapport with adult members to identify their needs.
  • Communicate with participants and parents about events and changes in the gym.
  • Oversee referees, basketball coaches, and gym supervisors.
  • Conduct afternoon youth sports classes following the National YMCA youth sports philosophy.
  • Prepare an organized lesson plan for each class that teaches sport skills, rules, and teamwork.
  • Assist with class enrollment registration and communications with participating families.
  • Hire, train, onboard, and coach assigned sports program staff and instructors.
  • Supervise assigned sports program staff and oversee day-to-day program administration.
  • Handle uniform orders, league registrations, and scheduling.
  • Conduct daily visual safety checks of activity areas.
  • Secure, maintain, store, and update sports equipment as necessary.
  • Assist in creating new programs and ideas to support program growth and development.
  • Conduct gymnasium facility tours to support branch membership.
  • Partner with the Program Director to work toward YMCA annual campaign department goals.
  • Monitor class enrollment and work toward budget targets for enrollment and revenue.
  • Serve as summer camp sports coordinator during the 10-week camp season.
  • Assist with developing a summer sports camp curriculum, supervising camp staff, and participating in daily camp activities.
  • Assist in training staff for summer sports camp.
  • Assist in developing daily activity schedules, session themes, and field trips.
  • Assist with the camp brochure, registration, and schedules.
  • Communicate with sports camp participants and parents through weekly schedules, daily updates, and seasonal roster changes.
Desired Qualifications
  • College coursework in recreation, sports management, or education is preferred.
