Requirements
- A Master's degree, specifically a Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing-related qualification, is required.
- Two years of recent clinical experience related to the area of practice are required.
- Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Michigan is required.
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the specialty area of practice is required, and all requirements for medical staff privileges must be maintained.
- The ability to operate and perform basic computer programs used for documentation and record keeping is required.
- Effective interpersonal relationship and communication skills for multiple group interactions are required.
- Clear and efficient verbal and written communication is required.
- The ability to provide emergency care within Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and/or Basic Life Support guidelines is required.
- The candidate must observe state regulations and professional ethics applicable to advanced nursing practice.
- The candidate must maintain patient confidentiality and preserve patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- The candidate must maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and other applicable policies and procedures.
- The candidate must use safe work practices, proper body mechanics, and personal protective equipment when necessary.
Responsibilities
- See patients in an outpatient setting Monday through Friday and participate in hospital rounding.
- Establish medical diagnoses for common short-term and chronic stable health problems; order and evaluate diagnostic studies; perform and monitor therapeutic procedures such as sutures, incision and drainage, intravenous therapies, casting, and splinting; and assess or manage follow-up plans.
- Prescribe and regulate medications according to written physician-agreed protocols.
- Record and document health appraisal data needed to coordinate or expedite required services and meet clinic policy.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for time management, cost outcomes, professional relationships, and interpersonal interactions.
- Act as a resource to healthcare staff and implement education programs to improve management of patients and families.
- Develop, conduct, and evaluate formal or informal in-service and continuing education programs in areas of expertise.
- Maintain and enhance current professional knowledge and complete continuing education requirements necessary for licensure.
- Support research by defining clinical research questions, participating in and conducting research in the practice specialty, and incorporating findings into practice.
- Collaborate with physicians as necessary to provide an appropriate plan of care.
- Refer patients to appropriate physicians and community resources for consultations, including therapy, specialists, and social resources.
- Participate in continuing education, professional memberships, scholarly activities, community outreach, and marketing activities that enhance the Nurse Practitioner role and nursing's professional image.
- Participate in developing and annually reviewing the clinic's written policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Participate in process improvement activities, use their results to initiate changes in practice or the practice environment, and contribute to colleagues' professional education.
- Promote quality nursing care through research, standard setting, peer review, evaluation of care and outcomes, and formal and informal education opportunities.
- Maintain privileged access to unit medication rooms for stocking and retrieving supplies.
- Provide customer service consistent with the organization's mission, values, and customer service standards.
- Maintain a safe workplace by keeping the work area free of hazards and correcting or properly reporting safety hazards.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience is preferred.
- Experienced Advanced Practice Providers with a background in Gastroenterology, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine are preferred.
