Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required; Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive engineering experience is required.
  • Familiarity with automotive, commercial, or heavy-duty vehicle design is required; direct experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of bills of materials, documentation control, and revision/version management is required.
  • Experience with configure-to-order products and modular bill-of-materials management is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of wiring harness design and formboard drawing creation using computer-aided design tools such as Zuken, Zuken E3, Capital, and AutoCAD Electrical is required.
  • Experience working with major component suppliers, engineering service suppliers, testing suppliers, and product validation engineers is required.
  • Experience directly designing components using Design for Manufacturing, Design for Service, and value engineering is required.
  • Hands-on skill in troubleshooting, product assembly, prototyping, testing, and validation using multimeters, power supplies, CANalyzer, and oscilloscopes is required.
  • Experience with electrical load analysis and management, power optimization, and redundancy planning for low-voltage 12/24-volt and high-voltage 600-volt-or-higher systems is required.
  • Hands-on experience with automotive communication protocols including J1939, Controller Area Network, Local Interconnect Network, and Ethernet is required, including implementing diagnostics and troubleshooting signal integrity across vehicle control modules.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and standards applicable to heavy-duty vehicle electrical systems, including Society of Automotive Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, and International Organization for Standardization standards, is required.
  • Candidates selected for employment must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Perform requirements analysis engineering, concept design, detailed design, problem resolution, vehicle attribute design, bill-of-materials development, customer application research, and other engineering duties for heavy-duty transit-bus electrical systems.
  • Design, configure, and industrialize electrical systems for manufacturing heavy-duty transit buses.
  • Influence systems- and component-level decisions to optimize vehicle functionality and performance attributes.
  • Provide customized vehicle-based power and signal distribution systems through the definition or selection of harnesses, devices, fusing, and connectors.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials, define the application of parts and assemblies, and provide input on modular bill-of-materials structure to improve configuration efficiency.
  • Use analytical tools to assess designs, including power, grounding, circuit protection, electromagnetic compatibility, signal integrity, and thermal management.
  • Perform design trade-offs and optimization to develop robust, manufacturable, and maintainable design concepts.
  • Use electronic computer-aided design tools to create, review, and release vehicle components, schematics, and harness assemblies.
  • Manage Customer and Design REI releases, including bill-of-materials structuring, change control, Production Change Orders, and Engineered Production Changes.
  • Support designs throughout the entire lifecycle, including development, production launch, variant designs, customization, and field support.
  • Work with test engineers to create Design Verification Plan and Report documents, execute defined test plans, and review test results and reports.
  • Provide engineering input to technical publications, including schematics, service manuals, parts manuals, and driver manuals.
  • Collaborate and iterate designs with mechanical, controls, and manufacturing engineers and production personnel.
