Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Knowledge of geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing, including activation, nursing administration, and personnel administration, is required.
  • Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations; relevant sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Controlled Substances Act (Canada), Health Promotion and Protection Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Coroners Act, Provincial College of Nurses and Standards of Practice, and other relevant federal, provincial, and municipal statutes is required.
  • Registration and membership in good standing with the provincial registry is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care to residents in accordance with required medical care and professional nursing practice.
  • Supervise the activities of and provide direction to Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers.
  • Coordinate nursing and other services for residents within the neighbourhood and with other services within the residence.
  • Lead shift reports with members of the health care team and ensure that team members are informed of changes in residents' status.
  • Record significant changes in residents' conditions and ensure resident chart documentation adheres to AgeCare policies and procedures and Provincial College of Nurses and Standards of Practice.
  • Review and process physician orders according to procedure, ensuring orders are implemented as soon as possible.
  • Immediately communicate difficulties in processing physician orders to the Director of Care or Assistant Director of Care.
