Position Description:
The University of Louisville Metropolitan College (MC) is seeking to hire a Student Success Specialist IV. The primary function of the Student Success Specialist is to monitor the enrollment of current MC students to determine MC program benefit eligibility. The Student Success Specialist participates in the enrollment management process of new MC students to ensure campus, community, and employment resources work collaboratively to employ, enroll management, and retain students to achieve MC and partner goals. Counseling skills are implemented to proactively engage and assist students in understanding their student financial aid accounts, tuition/fee billing, and application of all financial awards. Through direct and ongoing contact with an assigned cohort, this position will help students identify barriers and develop a plan to persist academically and in the workforce. Furthermore, this position educates students regarding successful career planning and connects students to academic, community, and employment resources helpful in obtaining individual academic and career goals. To achieve these goals, this position must work closely with constituents from corporate partners, educational partners, and the community. MC Student Success Specialists are expected to develop comprehensive knowledge of all partners of the MC Council (i.e. UPS, Jefferson Community and Technical College, University of Louisville, and local and state workforce development services) including structure, mission, resources, technology, policies, and procedures.
There are eight MC Student Success Specialist working under the supervision of the Director of Metropolitan College. While each specialist is responsible for a student cohort (including 275+ students), the team works together to develop the annual communication plan; identify data needs and implement assessment; provide career development services and career pathway programs; employ services aimed at student academic and employment retention; provide services that support community building and student recognition; implement enrollment management procedures for new participants; and implement various student services programs that support student success such as themed community housing, financial literacy, career mentoring, etc. This position will also contribute to creating the annual strategic plan which sets program goals to achieve the organization’s mission.
Each MC Student Success Specialist has the opportunity for cross-training, leadership development, and skill diversification by providing overall leadership to specific MC service areas. Through their leadership, specialists must be thoughtful and strategic in meeting the needs of all MC partners, support student success, delegate tasks, ensure service accessibility to third-shift employees, and provide oversight to ensure the collaborative work of colleagues is thoroughly completed in a timely manner. The MC Student Success Specialist hire, set project priorities, evaluate, and supervise graduate student interns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Utilizing holistic, student-centered approaches, making direct and ongoing contacts with assigned students regarding enrollment, financial barriers, effective academic planning to achieve on-time degree completion, and fulfilment of eligibility requirements to access MC benefits. Maintain student interventions in Metropolitan College (MC) database and prepare MC student agreements to align with individual student academic and career goals, to ensure tuition is deferred by deadline.
Participate in the enrollment management process of new MC students to ensure campus, community, and employment resources work collaboratively to employ, enroll, and retain students to achieve MC and partner goals.
Manage student interventions to support MC student persistence and graduation. In consultation with students, identify barriers and develop a plan to persist academically and in the workforce. Assist students in understanding financial aid accounts, tuition and fee billing, and application of all financial awards. Assist students with identifying resources to address financial gaps, effective budgeting, emergency funds, and wealth management. Identify at-risk students to provide more intensive support and to make appropriate referrals to campus, community, and employer resources.
Provide career coaching to Metropolitan College (MC) participants and the Jefferson Community and Technical College student body by conducting resume development, mock interviews, experiential learning planning, career planning, and connecting participants to local workforce opportunities through established career pathways and career mentor program. Create and implement innovative resources to support career development.
Effectively manage, empower, and delegate responsibilities within the Student Success Team by assigning tasks, evaluating data, strategic planning, project management, monitoring progress, and responding to challenges as they arise. Foster an environment of open communication and idea-sharing to ensure the collective knowledge of the team is harnessed to support student success and overcome organizational challenges. Staff members are expected to make strategic identification of how services meet the broader goals and objectives of the organization and its partners.
Preferred Qualifications
This position requires an individual that is collaborative, has strong coaching skills, and the ability to provide leadership to special tasks. Furthermore, this position requires an individual to be flexible in meeting the changing needs of students and the organization. To meet these needs, this position will require an individual to occasionally work outside of regularly scheduled office hours and standard five-day workweeks. This may include evenings and adjusted four-day workweeks as dictated by organizational requirements. Bi-lingual abilities (Spanish) are preferred but not required.

Career counseling experience with the ability to advise clients at various life stages regarding career exploration, planning and placement. Service Excellence – responsive, informs constituents of process, pleasant to work with, educates and provides timely, accurate information.
Adept in Technology- technological skills necessary to perform data entry, manage calendars as well as utilize internet, People Soft and MC internal database with attention to accuracy and timelines. Familiar with Microsoft Office software Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams, Outlook, and more. Proactive - anticipates and plans for problems before they arise.
Strategic- leadership that provides strategic vision for the organization by contributing to the strategic course for an organization, communicating that direction to internal and external stakeholders and engaging them to work collaboratively toward achieving the organization’s mission.
Target Compensation Maximum:
$63,000.00
Target Compensation Minimum:
$58,200.00
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
