Requirements
  • An associate degree is required at minimum; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience is required, along with familiarity with food safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Proficiency, or the ability to become proficient, in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and various inventory systems is required.
  • HACCP and Preventive Controls Qualified Individual certification or qualification are required.
  • The candidate must be able to walk and climb stairs and ladders and perform extended periods of standing, bending, and walking.
  • The candidate must have sufficient visual, hearing, speaking, smell, and touch acuity to identify and react to normal, abnormal, and alarm conditions.
  • The candidate must be able to logically and methodically break down complex problems and processes for effective communication across the organization.
  • The candidate must consent to a background screening, drug test, and physical.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish language ability is required.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the plant's Food Safety Plan Lead by maintaining and reviewing the HACCP and Food Safety Plan and verifying prerequisite programs through structured monthly internal audits.
  • Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP requirements across plant operations to ensure food safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead third-party and customer audits, including BRC, FDA, and customer-specific audits, and serve as the primary point of contact during inspections.
  • Lead site quality assurance and laboratory operations, overseeing product release, compliance inspections, and daily quality activities.
  • Manage quality activities in Infor M3, including inspection and test results, inventory holds and releases, Certificates of Analysis, lot traceability, and recall readiness.
  • Own the internal audit system, conduct and review monthly Good Manufacturing Practices audits, and ensure corrective actions are closed in a timely manner.
  • Partner with Operations, Procurement, and Corporate Quality to investigate quality events, customer complaints, and deviations and complete corrective and preventive actions with root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and document product holds and product deviations.
  • Oversee QA technicians' scheduling, training, coaching, performance management, disciplinary actions, and timecard approvals.
  • Develop and conduct food safety and quality training programs and ensure regulatory and corporate training requirements are completed.
  • Review and verify quality and food safety documentation, including swab sheets, batch cards, weight control sheets, positive release sheets, and line checks.
  • Manage calibration and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment, including refractometers, moisture analyzers, fat and salt analyzers, gas chromatographs, and color spectrometers.
  • Oversee laboratory proficiency programs, third-party laboratory services, and laboratory certification programs, including New Jersey Department of Environment, American Oil Chemist Society, ESML, and Merieux lab services.
  • Develop, update, and maintain laboratory standard operating procedures and documentation, including version control and distribution through PolicyTech or another document management system.
  • Maintain safety stock levels of laboratory supplies and manage related chemical, environmental monitoring, and sampling supplies.
  • Provide the direct manager with schedule and current information regarding laboratory operations, food safety, and quality deviations.
  • Follow applicable safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the direct manager.
