Requirements
  • A High School Diploma and two years of experience in health care delivery in positions such as Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, Emergency Medical Technician, Medic/Corps Person, or two clinical semesters completed as a Nursing Student, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provide patient care by performing basic and selected specialized procedures that contribute to patients' well-being, comfort, and safety.
  • Participate in patient-care delivery by performing basic and specialized physical and psychosocial interventions defined by the Patient Care Technician Skill Inventory, including collecting and recording specimens and body fluids.
  • Under the direct supervision of a nurse, perform direct patient care affecting patients' well-being, comfort, and safety.
  • Perform technical procedures and report findings to nursing staff, including venipuncture for blood samples, electrocardiograms, electrode placement, and telemetry readings.
  • Collect patient data defined by the Skill Inventory List and document it on the appropriate flow sheets.
  • Collect specimens, perform basic tests, or send specimens to the appropriate laboratory for analysis according to hospital policies.
  • Attend to patients' environmental needs by straightening belongings and offering comfort measures at the nurse's direction.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities as directed by a nurse.
  • Orient patients and families to the unit and patient room and provide copies of the Patients' Bill of Rights as directed by a nurse.
  • Perform other duties assigned by a nurse to support unit functioning and patient-care delivery.
