Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a prior environmental, health, and safety role is required.
  • Basic understanding of environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 26000, and ISO 45001 standards is required.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, and local safety regulations is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills are required.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team is required.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate environmental, health, safety, and security regulatory compliance for the Hauppauge, Valhalla, and Brownsville locations.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures to minimize the risk of job-related injuries or accidents.
  • Inspect the workplace with leaders from other functional areas to identify health and safety hazards and take corrective and preventive action.
  • Educate employees on safe and healthy working conditions and behaviors through risk analysis.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee employee training programs covering compliance training, laboratory and plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, and industrial hygiene.
  • Oversee licensed hazardous waste disposal and monitor waste handling.
  • Investigate incidents and ensure that appropriate reports are prepared and maintained according to internal procedures and government regulations.
  • Support implementation of emergency procedures and ensure emergency teams are prepared for potential incidents.
  • Ensure appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health, safety, and security hazards exist.
  • Conduct ergonomic evaluations and environmental, health, and safety audits.
  • Engage in collaborative solution creation and implementation with other employees.
  • Update the manager monthly on environmental, health, and safety key performance indicators and relevant metrics.
  • Manage Spellman's product environmental compliance reporting system.
  • Prepare reports, track key performance indicator metrics, create meeting materials, and execute assigned special projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior internship or part-time experience in environmental, health, and safety in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
