Requirements
  • The lifeguard must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A nationally recognized lifeguarding certificate, including First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Automated External Defibrillator certifications, is required within 90 days of hire.
  • The employee must be able to perform all rescues and prerequisite skills required by the American Red Cross Pool Lifeguarding training program.
  • The employee must be able to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes without using the arms, swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound object from a depth of 7 to 10 feet, and return to the starting position.
  • The employee must demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills for communicating facility rules to members and patrons.
  • The employee must be able to sustain high levels of mental and visual attention, perform considerable hand-eye coordination, regularly lift bulky or moderately heavy weights up to 50 pounds, and occasionally assist with heavier tasks or equivalent pushing, pulling, or material-handling effort.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor the aquatic environment and enforce facility rules.
  • Respond to emergencies within the scope of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding training program and the BAC Emergency Action Plan.
  • Facilitate group, team, or private swimming lesson activities.
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served when providing direct patient care.
  • Maintain patron safety in accordance with Bronson Athletic Club policy and the State Health Code.
  • Perform opening and closing tasks and other duties required by Bronson Athletic Club.
  • Measure and record free chlorine levels in pools, hot tubs, and cold plunges.
  • Assist with the annual shutdown.
