Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant applied discipline
  • M.Sc. in Computer Science (or a related discipline) or ten (10) years of specialized experience (JAVA8+) plus a bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant applied discipline
  • Experience working with a team of software developers through agile sprints and tracking work via tools such as JIRA, Github projects
  • Experience with full-stack software development including core software development languages (JAVA8+), database technologies (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL), web application development (HTML/CSS/ Javascript), modern virtualization approaches (AWS/Docker), varied application architectural style (monolith, microservices, event-driven (pub-sub)) and web application frameworks (Angular, Typescript, Nodejs)
  • Research and software development experience applying systems engineering, agile software development best practices and data-centric principles to design, develop and deploy software applications and services
Responsibilities
  • Develop or utilize new or existing technology to develop dynamic web applications or software tools for bioinformatics application.
  • Serve as the application lead for applications.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop database application and tools for supporting bioinformatics and scientific computing research projects.
  • Provide technical experience reviewing, analyzing, and modifying existing programming systems.
  • Use advanced knowledge in machine learning, statistics, text mining, natural language processing, computational semantics, computer vision, and data science to develop creative solutions to complex real-world problems.
  • Evaluate new analytic methods and software and adapt them if necessary.
  • Work with staff to develop, test and refine novel programming methods, toolkits, and algorithms.
  • Design and implement computer solutions to novel experimental paradigms.
  • Encodes, tests, debugs and installs new programs using various programming languages.
  • Analyze and write statistical computer code.
  • Develop new technologies and core labs support for detailed and consistent data analysis/manipulation and programming support for custom built scientific applications.
  • Develops and schedules data backups, security patches or upgrades, etc.
  • Serve as the lead in the technology areas, including roadmaps, schedules, status reports, plans and recommendations.
  • Test and install the software updates.
  • Documents all assignments and creates various reports as needed.
  • Prepare roadmaps, schedules, status reports, plans and recommendations.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to detail all steps and activities carried out for all aspects of the program data management.
  • Writes and maintains program documentation.
  • Maintain and follow SOPs, configuration management, upgrades and availability.
  • Documents programming problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Manage and troubleshoot deployments and image builds.
  • Develop new code and refine/troubleshoot existing code.
  • Troubleshoot scripts and programs to ensure successful use of said scripts and programs.
  • Provides assistance with planning, building and maintaining applications to meet an end user's needs.
  • Perform system design including creation of documents, object diagrams and prototypes.
  • Plan, build and maintain applications to meet end users need.
  • Work with investigators to design the prototypes and implement the systems to support various in-house research projects.
  • Troubleshoots any issues or problems and implements appropriate corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement new or major revisions to applications, databases, or software tools.
  • Evaluates impact of programming modifications.
  • Refines data and formats final product.
  • Design and develop bioinformatics databases to better support and advanced biomedical research.
