As we continue to grow and evolve, we are seeking a passionate and skilled individual to join our team as an EHS Specialist at our Albion, MI Plant.
This position is responsible for identifying opportunities and driving improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) risk at the location level. This EHS Specialist in this role will work to implement programs, processes and procedures within the Renewables business unit at our Albion site. In this critical role, you will lead initiatives to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety and sustainability. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical background and a passion for creating a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- For assigned area and facilities, maintain and ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state and local Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) regulations.
- Aid locations in execution of EHS Management Systems, Significant Injury and Fatality (SIF) initiatives, and Life Critical Policies through education and training.
- Mentor/coach supervisors and employees in employing Life Critical Policies and programs, exposure identification, monthly housekeeping, inspections of facilities and equipment, and identification, classification, and reporting of incidents and potential hazards.
- Assist facility management in coordinating required environmental data collection activities, field inspections, record keeping, and reporting requirements as is necessary to comply with air and water pollution permits as well as all federal, state, and local environmental protection agency’s rules and regulations.
- Ensure all databases are maintained with accuracy and up-to-date information, holding facility staff accountable for keeping data and reporting compliant per the company’s hazard management program.
- Schedule and attend (or assist in facilitating) required inspections and employee testing. Review resulting documentation to assure noted issues are clear and concise.
- Develop an understanding of the supervisory, administrative and day-to-day operating requirements of the assigned area, seeking to maintain good working relationships with all employees, research opportunities to improve facility safety culture, customer safety & service, and operations efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
- 2-5 years’ relevant EHS experience required
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
Work is performed in a 24x7 Ethanol production facility. This position involves frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions, dirt, dust, fumes, noise, heights, and intermittent lifting of heavy objects. Some work performed in heights. Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
