CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Sr. Research Laboratory Technician (A) performs advanced technical activities related to laboratory research projects and clinical trials within the department. Specifically, the Sr. Research Laboratory Technician aids scientists by monitoring and recording study findings.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Downloads, enters, and regulates data and maintains quality assurance. Contributes to report writing and graphical presentation of data. Monitors inventory of equipment and supplies and places orders in a timely fashion. Maintains laboratory facilities and equipment in compliance with safety regulations and policies. Prepares reports on project status and risk assessments. Completes all required documentation for laboratory requests. Schedules laboratory work based on project priorities to meet deadlines. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
Assists with the assignment and coordination of research tasks across laboratory personnel, including investigators, technicians, veterinarians, and core facilities, with specific attention to mouse study timelines, breeding schedules, and experimental milestones. Assists with preparation and tracking of project budgets related to pre-clinical research, including animal purchase and per-diem costs, specialized diets, genotyping, veterinary services, reagents, and shared resource fees. Monitors progress of mouse experiments and associated research activities to ensure studies remain on schedule. Assists with identifying delays related to breeding performance, animal availability, protocol amendments, or experimental outcomes. Serves as a primary point of contact for mouse research projects, communicating study status, timeline adjustments, and resource needs to principal investigators, lab leadership, veterinary staff, and regulatory offices. Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation related to mouse studies, including experimental timelines, breeding logs, cohort tracking sheets, data collection schedules, and summary reports. Ensures adherence to institutional, federal, and regulatory standards by reviewing project objectives against approved IACUC protocols, animal use justifications, and experimental deliverables. Conducts routine animal health observations and documents findings; promptly communicates concerns or deviations to veterinary staff, investigators, and project leadership. Performs hands-on mouse procedures as part of coordinated research projects, including but not limited to dosing, sample collection, and monitoring of experimental endpoints, in accordance with approved IACUC protocols and laboratory SOPs. Organizes, attends, and participates in research planning meetings and progress reviews focused on mouse experiments and preclinical project coordination. Prepares presentation materials for research meetings, including study timelines, animal usage summaries, experimental progress updates, and coordination plans for upcoming experiments.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Familiarity with IACUC regulations, animal welfare standards, and institutional policies governing mouse research, including protocol adherence and documentation requirements.
- Ability to interpret and track pre-clinical experimental timelines, animal usage, and study milestones across multiple concurrent research projects.
- Knowledge of data collection and documentation practices for in vivo studies, including accurate recording of experimental procedures, observations, and sample metadata to support reproducibility and regulatory compliance.
- Skill in coordinating cross-functional pre-clinical research teams, including investigators, animal care staff, veterinarians, and core facilities.
