Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the work to be performed. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Previous marketing and communication experience, conducted in a professional setting.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to copy edit marketing and communication content for grammatical errors, typos etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a full range of multimedia storytelling methods, i.e. written copy, videos, graphics, etc.
  • Deep understanding of, and practical experience with, social media platforms.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent projects while proactively communicating with stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain punctual, dependable hours on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
  • Work with Knight Center leadership to develop, maintain, and execute a marketing and communications strategy for the Center and its main programs. Keep the strategy up-to-date and adapt it as needed.
  • Write, edit, and distribute promotional stories and press releases about the Knight Center’s courses, events, publications, and more, for publication in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
  • Create and execute campaigns to promote the Knight Center’s programs (and related offerings) on social media, ensuring that the Center’s presence in multiple platforms is relevant and engaging. Grow the Center’s presence on social media and establish and track related goals and benchmarks for success.
  • Produce and/or coordinate the production of social media creatives for free and paid promotion on multiple platforms to promote Knight Center’s programs, track incoming traffic, and develop related best practices.
  • Oversee the Center’s database by using it to send email marketing materials and engage audiences, while also developing new ways of using it as effectively as possible.
  • Deepen engagement with existing audiences, and find creative ways to cultivate new audiences, in service of growing the Center’s international reach.
  • Maintain and update the Knight Center’s institutional website and, in collaboration with staff, help to maintain the Center’s programmatic websites.
  • Create and edit videos that showcase the Knight Center’s programs and upcoming offerings.
  • Attend occasional conferences and other events on behalf of the Knight Center, with the goal of helping to market the Center’s programs.
  • Oversee the work of marketing & communication interns and provide related guidance and feedback.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fluent or conversant in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
  • Familiarity with WordPress and email management systems.
  • Familiarity with tracking website analytics.
  • An understanding of, and appreciation for, the journalism industry.
  • Experience maintaining brand and style standards and guidelines.
  • Video editing experience.
  • Familiarity with AP style.
