- Provide quality care to inpatients with hematologic and oncologic diagnoses who are admitted for malignancy complications, treatment complications, palliative care, or chemotherapy.
- Assess patients' physical and psychosocial status.
- Obtain and document comprehensive health histories.
- Perform and document complete system-focused and symptom-specific physical examinations.
- Assess cancer symptoms, physical comorbidities, disease progression or recurrence, and late effects of cancer and its treatment.
- Conduct pharmacologic assessments covering prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, nutritional supplements, and complementary or alternative therapies.
- Recognize deviations from normal physical assessment findings.
- Order and interpret laboratory, diagnostic, and other ancillary data.
- Prioritize urgent or highest-priority patient problems.
- Identify patients who may be eligible for clinical trials based on clinical findings.
- Relay appropriate patient-care information to the collaborating physician.
- Communicate the plan of care to patients, caregivers, and healthcare team members.
- Write prescriptions for medications, blood products, diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Administer therapeutic measures and obtain specimens in accordance with practice guidelines.
- Manage cancer symptoms and side effects related to cancer treatment.
- Refer patients or request consultations from physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist with family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of care.
- Serve as a resource to the healthcare team regarding quality care.
- Provide continuity of care in inpatient and outpatient settings to achieve optimal patient outcomes and satisfaction.
- Provide care for patients participating in clinical trials.
- Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend improvements.
- Perform procedures as warranted.
- Take call as required, including responding to patient and family phone calls, rounding in the hospital on weekends or as requested, admitting patients as needed, and contacting the supervising physician for backup.
- Maintain current Basic Life Support certification and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification when required by the hospital.
- Educate patients and families about proposed treatment plans.
- Use age- and culturally appropriate teaching methods, including diagrams, handouts, and booklets.
- Facilitate patient decision-making about discontinuing active cancer treatment while optimizing supportive care.
- Educate cancer survivors about long-term effects of cancer and its treatment.
- Provide formal and informal oncology-care education to staff.
- Provide onboarding and orientation for new Advanced Practice Providers to the inpatient role as necessary.
- Participate in developing educational materials for patients and healthcare providers.
- Present cancer-care and specialty-specific updates to professionals at local, regional, and national levels.
- Participate in community discussions, support groups, and informal consultations about oncology education and support.
- Report patient information accurately and promptly.
- Comply with inpatient Epic documentation requirements.
- Edit dictation.
- Work effectively with others and follow the chain of command.
- Collaborate with other health disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Represent the Advanced Practice Provider group in department and board meetings and share information with the group.
- A minimum of one year of oncology nursing experience is preferred.

Jackson Street. Situated on a three-acre campus in Tullahoma's north commercial gateway, the 33,000-square-foot center brings together medical oncology, radiation oncology and imaging services under one roof, providing patients with comprehensive cancer care close to where they live and work. The new center expands access to advanced cancer treatments and diagnostic services, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the Tullahoma region to receive care. Executing a major renovation around cancer care: how Tennessee Oncology is giving its downtown Chattanooga office a major facelift. Tennessee Oncology, which treats nearly half the cancer patients in the Volunteer State, opened the newly-renovated lobby today and began construction on the second and third floors at its downtown Chattanooga clinic, located at 1032 McCallie Ave., as part of a two-year overhaul. Renovating an operational oncology clinic requires expertise so that patient care is not disrupted and the project build-out can be staged efficiently. Tennessee Oncology is partnering with Blevins Construction and Tinker Ma to double the overall size of the clinic, including: * Expanding patient check-in and check-out areas * Doubling the infusion room space * Tripling the exam and new patient consult rooms * Increasing the laboratory, pharmacy, and research pharmacy areas * Adding an administrative suite "Tennessee Oncology has deep roots in the Chattanooga community, and we're excited to unveil our newly renovated lobby and welcome patients and their families into a space designed to enhance the patient experience," said Natalie Dickson, MD, CEO and President of Tennessee Oncology. Tennessee Oncology breaks ground on new cancer center in Murfreesboro. Tennessee Oncology, a nationally recognized physician-owned specialty practice, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 23, for a new comprehensive cancer center in Murfreesboro. The center, located at 1635 Blackman Road, will be a three-story, 56,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility. Drs. Yajun Ma, Christopher Waynick, and Michael Stany will begin caring for patients in the new facility beginning in spring 2027. The new location will expand access to integrated cancer services in Rutherford County, including advanced imaging, medical oncology, and radiation oncology - bringing more care closer to where patients live and work. "Murfreesboro continues to grow rapidly, and ensuring patients have access to high-quality cancer care close to home is essential," said Natalie Dickson, M.D., President and CEO of Tennessee Oncology.
