For Summer 2023

We are seeking a motivated Materials Testing and Simulation Intern to assist in expanding the capabilities of Markforged Simulation software. Simulation helps Markforged users to take the guesswork out of 3D Printing by validating part design and performance before hitting print, and is an essential component of the Digital Forge platform. As a Materials Testing and Simulations Intern, you will work closely with our materials engineers to develop test plans, print testing samples, and perform a wide range of mechanical testing activities; you will also work closely with our SW engineers to develop and validate Simulation capabilities using the test data.

Collaborate to develop printing and mechanical testing plans and methods
Print testing samples and conduct materials mechanical testing using various testing equipment and procedures
Collect, process and analyze test data
Run simulation scripts and validate results with mechanical test data
Assist with the development of mechanical simulation models and code base
Contribute to the creation of technical reports and presentations
Manage project timelines and priorities under the guidance of the engineering team

What you have:

Pursuing a degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field
Basic understanding of materials mechanical properties and testing methods
Ability to design a set of experiments and analyze results
Entry-level proficiency in a scripting language (Python preferred)
Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and simulation software is a plus but not required
Strong sense of ownership and attention to detail
Strong can-do and can-learn attitudes
