Requirements
  • Effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with co-workers and the supervisor.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Follow all policies and procedures consistently.
  • Understand written, oral, or diagram-based instructions and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Work effectively when demands and priorities change rapidly.
  • Use hand and power tools, traffic control devices, and mobile equipment such as tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, and augers.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have at least one year of related work experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial or industrial repair, or equipment operation through use of a DZ/AZ license.
  • Hold a valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric tools and equipment.
  • Recognize hazards in routine and non-routine tasks, adjust activities to avoid injury or accidents, and maintain safety awareness while using tools, driving, or operating equipment.
  • Wear personal protective equipment appropriate to the job.
  • Complete training in traffic control methods, first aid, transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS, and job-related aspects of Occupational Health.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain contracted assets including roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, and vegetation according to contract standards and conditions.
  • Remove snow and ice using snow-removal and sanding equipment.
  • Maintain and repair highways and other surfaces, including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, reflectors, litter, and debris.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair; slope, berm, culvert, and drain repair and maintenance; and vegetation control.
  • Set up and remove traffic control equipment as required.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites.
  • Remain available for emergency-response rotations, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Ontario Class AZ driver's license is a plus.
