We are seeking a Senior Customs & Excise Manager to oversee our customs compliance and excise-related operations in the UK. You will play a key role in ensuring our import activities are fully compliant with UK customs and HMRC regulations, while supporting business continuity through efficient internal controls, stakeholder alignment, and process optimisation.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement and manage customs policies, processes and operating procedures in line with UK regulations.

Lead internal quality checks and audits; report and follow up on non-compliance findings.

Manage tariff classification and maintain accurate commodity coding records (HTS/HS).

Act as the primary liaison between customs and internal departments including Buying, Commercial Ops, Logistics, Tax and Finance.

Handle customs-related claims and submissions, including duty reclaims, objections, and voluntary disclosures.

Support long-term customs improvement projects, including system enhancements and policy standardisation.

Set up and manage end-to-end customs procedures for UK imports, including Inward Processing Relief (IPR), excise tax management, and permit applications.

Oversee and renegotiate contracts with customs brokers and external service providers.

Evaluate, select, and implement third-party tools for customs data automation and risk control.

Design and improve reconciliation processes for customs duties and reserves.

Manage excise tax matters, including alcohol, sugar and coffee levies, and associated reporting.
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in International Trade, Supply Chain, Finance, or a related field.

UK customs certification (e.g., Douane Declarant or equivalent) strongly preferred.

In-depth knowledge of UK/EU customs compliance, including T1 movements and excise requirements.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in customs/trade compliance roles within multinational or regulated environments.

Strong command of English (written and verbal); other languages a plus.

Excellent skills in MS Office (especially Excel); experience with customs systems (e.g., CDS, SAP GTS) is a bonus.

Strong planning, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution abilities.

Self-starter with high attention to detail, resilience under pressure, and ability to work in dynamic cross-functional settings.
