Requirements
  • This position requires either ten years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional full-time experience in television broadcasting.
  • Experience with producing, scripting, and editing long-format documentaries.
  • Superior on-air voice quality and network-quality hosting.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.
  • Knowledge of the public broadcasting industry and awareness of new techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.
  • Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Skill in current digital audio editing and general desktop software applications.
  • Skill in researching topics for news and interview broadcasts utilizing various resources.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with university faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.
  • Ability to perform effectively in live, multi-camera studio productions.
  • Ability to use microphones, portable recording devices, and video studio production equipment.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively within the community and contribute to a team effort.
  • Ability to diffuse and respond professionally to stressful situations and difficult people.
Responsibilities
  • Write, produce, and present news stories and segments for WGCU's nightly broadcast.
  • Collaborate with the news team to plan program topics and develop content for the weekly television newscast, including curating news from internal and external sources.
  • Research topics, study background information, and conduct interviews to prepare for programs and longer-form segments.
  • Write scripts, segues, and supporting material; gather and rewrite information to deliver clear, accurate, and compelling news stories.
  • Work with editors to develop video packages for broadcast.
  • Coordinate with the news team to schedule guests and manage logistics for program taping.
  • Ensure editorial integrity of the production process and provide guidance on content selection and story execution.
  • Maintain a professional on-camera presence while delivering news calmly, clearly, and in a timely manner.
  • Identify content for distribution across digital and broadcast platforms and develop multi-platform treatments for stories.
  • Assist with program distribution both online and off-air.
  • Work with the Executive Producer of Content to support production needs, address challenges, and implement solutions.
  • Represent WGCU Public Broadcasting at community events and public appearances.
  • Supervise student workers, interns, or OPS staff as assigned.
  • Participate in on-air fundraising campaigns.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Two years of professional, full-time experience in television broadcasting, particularly for public broadcasting.
  • Experience using After Effects, Live Type, Motion, and Photoshop.
  • Experience using field cameras.
