Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid Alberta Journeyperson Welder Certificate is required.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain applicable Canadian Welding Bureau certifications, including CSA W47.1 and/or W47.2, is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working within standardized manufacturing processes, quality control systems, and production workflows is required.
  • Experience performing routine preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of welding and fabrication equipment is required.
  • Proven experience reading and interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and welding procedure specifications is required.
  • Sound knowledge of welding theory, metallurgy, and the effects of heat on base and filler materials is required.
  • The ability to perform visual inspections of welds and fabricated components and identify defects, non-conformances, and quality issues is required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to safely set up, adjust, and troubleshoot welding and fabrication equipment are required.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and accountability is required.
  • The ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 35 pounds, stand for extended periods, and use the manual dexterity needed to operate tools and equipment is required.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment must be used in the manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
  • Read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and welding procedure specifications to manufacture components as designed.
  • Set up and operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment using gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding processes.
  • Perform flame-cutting and thermal cutting operations using manual or semi-automatic equipment.
  • Operate metal fabrication and forming equipment, including brakes, shears, and straightening and bending machines.
  • Repair, rebuild, and modify metal components by welding additional material or reinforcing existing structures.
  • Complete inspections, repairs, alterations, and retrofit work to ensure structural integrity and compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor material and part usage and report shortages, defects, or quality concerns.
  • Complete assigned tasks and projects accurately, efficiently, and within established timelines.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records and documentation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of welding technologies, codes, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Train, direct, and support junior employees and apprentices and inspect and certify work quality as required.
  • Participate in and adhere to shop hygiene, housekeeping, and the 5S program.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Silent-Aire safety program standards and the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.
  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment involving possible exposure to noise, moving machinery, varying temperatures, and other production-related hazards.
  • Work occasional overtime when work volume requires it and travel to off-site locations when required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Red Seal endorsement is considered an asset.
  • Current or previous certification in gas metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding processes in all positions is considered an asset.

Johnson Controls has acquired Nantum AI, a New York-based developer of AI algorithms for building energy efficiency, to enhance its OpenBlue digital ecosystem. Ring Capital joins Enerin's Series A to decarbonise high-temperature industrial heat

Enerin, a Norwegian industrial heat pump technology company, has completed the third tranche of its Series A round, adding Paris-based Ring Capital to its investor consortium. The round includes Climentum Capital, The Footprint Firm, Johnson Controls, Move Energy, PSV Hafnium and Momentum. The company's HoegTemp system delivers thermal energy at temperatures up to 250°C, targeting the industrial heat segment responsible for over 20% of global CO2 emissions. Each installation avoids approximately 36,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over its lifetime by replacing fossil-fuel boilers. Enerin is transitioning from development to serial production, with three active pilots and a recent contract with Roche. The funding will scale manufacturing operations and accelerate product development. CEO Arne Høeg said Ring Capital's involvement strengthens the company's ability to deploy solutions across Europe.

Insteel reports fastest revenue growth among building products stocks despite missing Q4 estimates

Insteel reported Q4 revenues of $159.9 million, up 23.3% year on year, but missed analysts' expectations by 1.3%. The steel wire reinforcing products manufacturer delivered mixed results, beating earnings per share estimates whilst falling short on revenue. Despite achieving the fastest revenue growth among the five commercial building products stocks tracked, Insteel recorded the weakest quarterly performance in the sector. The group collectively beat consensus revenue estimates by 1.2% and saw share prices rise 3.4% on average since earnings. Johnson Controls led the sector with revenues of $5.80 billion, up 6.8% year on year and exceeding expectations by 2.8%. Insteel's stock has risen 3.6% since reporting and currently trades at $34.90.

Johnson Controls to acquire Alloy Enterprises, boosting data center cooling efficiency by up to 35%

Johnson Controls has signed an agreement to acquire Alloy Enterprises, a Boston-based thermal management technology company, to strengthen its position in the data centre cooling market. Financial terms were not disclosed. Founded in 2020, Alloy Enterprises specialises in advanced direct liquid cooling components that can improve thermal management efficiency by up to 35% and reduce pressure drop by up to 75%, resulting in lower overall cooling system energy use. The company's proprietary Stack Forging manufacturing process creates single-piece components with embedded microgeometries for maximum heat transfer. The acquisition complements Johnson Controls' existing thermal management portfolio and aligns with its strategy to deliver differentiated cooling solutions for AI-driven data centres. The transaction is expected to close in fiscal Q3, subject to regulatory approvals.
