Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Hold a current Massachusetts state Registered Nurse license.
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Possess excellent communication, customer service, interpersonal communication, organizational, and adaptability skills.
  • Have command of verbal and written English.
  • Possess sound dexterity and visual acuity, mental alertness, stamina for fast-paced or emergency environments, and the ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, and reach without restriction.
  • Be able to lift between 25 and 50 pounds using good body mechanics, push heavy equipment, stretchers, and wheelchairs, and perform prolonged standing and walking throughout the work shift.
  • Have fine motor skills for administering injections, inserting catheters, and operating medical equipment.
  • Be able to work in conditions involving communicable diseases, body fluids, and potentially stressful or noisy hospital environments.
  • Meet annual safety training requirements.
  • Maintain current licensure, certifications, and competencies.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver compassionate, collaborative, high-quality nursing care to patients across age groups, cultures, psychosocial and spiritual contexts, and disability concerns.
  • Deliver direct and indirect nursing care through application of the nursing process and in accordance with applicable policies, practice guidelines, nursing standards, the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized, coordinated, comprehensive care plans.
  • Assess and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, to monitor patient status.
  • Gather and document patients’ medical histories, symptoms, and current health status.
  • Assess patients for care needs, changes in condition or behavior, and response to treatment.
  • Administer and accurately record medications, including oral and intravenous medications, according to provider orders and established protocols.
  • Independently administer nursing care using simple and complex techniques and processes specific to patient needs.
  • Delegate care in accordance with the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act and Sturdy Health guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, interventions, responses to treatment, and individualized nursing plans of care.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families coping with illness and treatment.
  • Educate patients and families about conditions, treatment options, health maintenance, and illness prevention.
  • Respond to medical emergencies by providing first aid and initiating appropriate interventions.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Use and maintain medical equipment, including monitors, intravenous pumps, and ventilators.
  • Participate in quality assessment and improvement initiatives and contribute to best practices in patient care.
  • Perform Charge Nurse duties as assigned.
  • Stay current with emerging nursing practices.
  • Apply research and evidence-based practice.
  • Ensure compliance with research protocols.
  • Demonstrate commitment to customer relations, continuous quality improvement, and preventing errors from reaching patients.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
