Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial insurance underwriting or brokerage (trucking, commercial auto, or casualty lines preferred)
  • Experience in both wholesale and/or retail brokerage settings
  • Active Property & Casualty license required
  • Surplus Lines license is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical, communication, and time-management skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently in a remote or hybrid environment
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, DOT/FMCSA regulations, and carrier appetite shifts
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate new and renewal commercial trucking accounts—up to 40 per week—with premiums ranging from $50,000 to $100,000+
  • Analyze risk using loss runs, MVRs, CAB reports, SAFER scores, FMCSA data, and other relevant underwriting materials
  • Make eligibility and pricing recommendations in alignment with underwriting guidelines and carrier appetites
  • Prepare comprehensive market submissions, quote proposals, and coverage comparisons
  • Review policies, binders, and endorsements for completeness and accuracy before client delivery
  • Communicate effectively with retail agents and internal stakeholders to gather complete and accurate risk data
  • Negotiate with carriers to secure competitive terms, leveraging existing market relationships
  • Track performance of bound accounts to identify profitability issues or loss trends
  • Address billing, endorsement, cancellation, and invoicing issues in partnership with Premium Accounting
  • Ensure prompt and accurate reporting of claims to the appropriate departments
  • Maintain well-organized and compliant electronic documentation of all submissions and carrier communications
  • Partner with actuarial, accounting, and risk management teams to support pricing strategy, auditing, and planning
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, DOT/FMCSA regulations, and carrier appetite shifts
  • Perform administrative tasks such as document scanning, filing, and recordkeeping as needed
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field preferred
  • Professional designations (e.g., CIC, CPCU, AU) strongly preferred
  • Surplus Lines license is a plus
  • Knowledge of agency management systems (e.g., AMS360, IMS) a plus
