Requirements
- Successful completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in a recognized advanced practice registered nurse specialty for the Nurse Practitioner pathway, or a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program for the Physician Assistant/Associate pathway.
- Current registered nurse and advanced practice registered nurse licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing, or current physician assistant licensure with the Oregon Medical Board.
- Obtain Washington Board of Nursing licensure within 90 days of the start date for the Nurse Practitioner pathway, or Washington Medical Board physician assistant licensure within 90 days of the start date for the Physician Assistant/Associate pathway.
- Current national board certification is required for the Nurse Practitioner pathway, or current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certification for the Physician Assistant/Associate pathway.
- DEA certification is required.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and patient management skills.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- Effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, including complex care discussions and transitions of care.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and contribute to coordinated, comprehensive, team-based care.
- Sound clinical judgment and decision-making, including the ability to recognize and respond to clinical deterioration.
- Proficiency in documentation and use of electronic health record systems.

Responsibilities
- Address urgent needs, evaluate patient situations, and determine treatment tolerance.
- Review laboratory results and modify orders as needed.
- Write chemotherapy orders in compliance with credentialed privileges.
- Manage patient anticoagulation.
- Respond to nurse questions and patient situations in the infusion room.
- Work closely with phone triage staff to manage patient issues.
- See patients as same-day add-ons when needed.
- Admit patients to community hospitals in collaboration with attending physicians.
- Round on patients in community hospitals in collaboration with attending physicians and in compliance with community hospital credentialed privileges.
- Provide backup-only on-call coverage for the attending physician.
- Assist in identifying patients eligible for clinical trials.
- Assist in caring for patients in clinical trials, including completing necessary documentation.
- Participate in research projects as appropriate.
- Participate in developing patient education tools and programs.
- Provide individualized patient education on oncology.
- Educate others on oncology and hematologic malignancies.
- Teach medical, nurse practitioner, and physician associate students when assigned.
- Participate in unit and departmental meetings, monitor organizational communications, respond in a timely manner, and meet institutional and departmental deadlines.
Desired Qualifications
- Current oncology certification.
- One or more years of experience as an advanced practice provider.
- One or more years of experience in oncology.
- Experience with EPIC and Beacon.
- Exposure to clinical trial research.
- Hematology/Oncology certification.
- Advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and management of complex hematologic/oncologic malignancies.
- Strong clinical judgment and timely escalation of care for acutely ill and immunocompromised patients.
- Proficiency in chemotherapy and biotherapy management, including monitoring and toxicity management.
- Proficiency in electronic health record documentation, order entry, and use of oncology-specific treatment plans and pathways.
