Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • Two years of medical secretarial or medical clerical experience is preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to navigate scheduling systems and Microsoft Office Suite, are required.
  • The ability to maintain and update computer competencies as required for the position is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Frequent sitting is required.
  • The employee must work in various parts of the hospital or from a work-from-home office environment as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduling and pre-registration functions to maintain efficient scheduling operations and coordinate procedure scheduling and ordering for designated departments according to established guidelines.
  • Schedule services requested by physician offices or patients, provide exam preparation instructions, and screen for pertinent information before scheduling.
  • Pre-register patients in the computer system according to hospital registration guidelines.
  • Ascertain insurance information to comply with managed care and other insurance regulations, perform revenue cycle reviews, and refer appropriate patients to Financial Care Consultants.
  • Maintain records according to hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information.
  • Collaborate with physician office staff to maintain effective working relationships and provide education for new office staff members.
  • Assist with training and orientation of new staff members.
  • Maintain department equipment.
  • Record and report equipment malfunctions, including initiating service work orders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
