  • A Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Expert-level proficiency in electrical schematic capture, preferably using Altium.
  • Ability to perform complex PCB layout, including high-speed signal integrity and power delivery network analysis.
  • Deep experience with embedded systems design, including microcontroller selection and peripheral integration.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation using standard laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Design for Test principles.
  • Experience with power supply design, including AC/DC, DC/DC conversion, and low-power battery-operated designs.
  • Knowledge of common wireless communication protocols, including Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, and cellular, as well as radio-frequency design considerations such as matching networks and antenna integration.
  • Experience ensuring products meet regulatory compliance standards such as FCC, CE, and UL.
  • Ability to work remotely from the United States with a valid work permit.
  • Access to a personal computer or device and reliable internet.
  • Ability to work as an independent contractor under a 1099 engagement.
Responsibilities
  • Bring up, debug, and validate hardware prototypes personally.
  • Design custom printed circuit board assemblies from concept through production.
  • Perform thorough electrical validation and troubleshooting.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other diagnostic tools to debug and validate hardware designs.
  • Ensure designs are production-ready before handoff to manufacturing.
  • Architect the electrical subsystem on new Internet of Things products.
  • Interact with contract manufacturers to move designs into mass production.
  • Own hardware designs end-to-end, from early architecture through prototype validation and production readiness.
  • Collaborate with Software, Hardware, and Product Design teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Translate business and product requirements into robust electrical designs and support designs from early concept through production and scale.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware environments such as Bare Metal C, real-time operating systems, or embedded Linux.
  • Working knowledge of signal processing and sensor interfacing techniques.
  • Experience designing products for hazardous or harsh environments.
  • Experience optimizing products for extremely low power consumption, including energy harvesting and deep sleep modes.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS IoT, Azure IoT, and Google Cloud, and how electrical design affects device-to-cloud communication.
  • Experience with embedded security considerations such as secure boot, encryption, and anti-tamper measures.
  • Prior experience working in a regulated industry such as Medical, Automotive, or Industrial Control.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Very still markets AI, edge, and connected-hardware work in July 2026.
  • LinkedIn shows 51-200 employees, implying meaningful delivery capacity without bloated overhead.
  • Its transparent, remote-first model attracts clients needing specialized execution across disciplines.

What critics are saying

  • Ben Wald left Very in June 2024, removing the founder-led sales engine.
  • Project-based consulting revenue stays lumpy and depends on constant new enterprise wins.
  • No visible 2025-2026 client disclosures signal pipeline weakness versus larger boutique rivals.

What makes Very LLC unique

  • Very combines AI, hardware, firmware, and cloud delivery under one roof.
  • Its 15-year IoT track record targets projects where mistakes destroy budgets and timelines.
  • Remote, product-minded teams build from prototype through production, not slideware consulting.
