Requirements
  • Minimum - High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate from an approved and accredit ultrasound program.
  • Current RDMS required.
  • RDMS required within 90 days for Methodist Hospital Interns.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain Basic Life Support certification.
  • No prior experience required for all students/interns of USCAH.
  • Minimum one year of acute hospital experience preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Accurately bills patient procedures, documents unusual conditions and/or limitations, records time examination completed, and technologist identification.
  • Attends continuing education as required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Attends in-service classes as assigned.
  • Complies with all departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Documents unusual situations.
  • Demonstrates competence in general, abdominal and obstetric/gynecologic sonographic imaging, including proper positioning and scanning techniques.
  • Effectively uses Picture Archiving and Communications Systems and other information systems (PACS).
  • Lifts and transfers patients.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient care and medical record information.
  • Monitors supply usage, orders replacements as needed.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Performs safety inspection of equipment prior to initial use. Reports unsafe acts or conditions to department management. Complies with all safety and infection control policies.
  • Possess the skills and knowledge needed to access the condition of pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patient(s). Provides educational information to family members as required.
  • Responsible for understanding and participating in the organization-wide Quality Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and interdepartmental quality control, quality improvement, and quality planning activities.
  • Reviews Ultrasound requisition, verifies examination, obtains patient treatment history and checks for special instructions. Greets patients, verifies their identity, and explains procedure utilizing Aidet for Patient Satisfaction.
  • Rotates to different shifts and work areas as assigned. Works overtime as directed. Availability for “call shifts” is mandatory. A maximum 45-minute response is required.
