A bit about the role:
Seeking a  talented Senior Backend Engineer  to assist a  Sean Parker startup that is building the first social AI platform, based in Sunnyvale, CA.  As a Senior Backend Engineer at Cantina, Inc. you will work on backend systems to support Cantina’s social AI platform.You will assist in the building and scaling of microservices that handle real-time messaging and dispatch push notifications to mobile clients.

A bit about the work:

• Design highly-scalable, maintainable, and secure backend systems to accommodate high traffic while ensuring system reliability, responsiveness, and optimal performance
• Plan and build  real-time chat and presence systems
• Write extensive tests to ensure that the features provided are reliable
• Write thorough documentation to assist client teams in navigating new features
• Utilize load tests and monitoring to ensure systems function at peak performance under load conditions
• Work with cross-functional team members to design, code, and  test backend systems

A bit about you:

• Education - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or foreign equivalent) 
• Scalable Systems - 3+ years professional software engineering experience building and/or operating large scalable systems
• Microservices/Load Balancing - Experience building and maintaining microservices that dispatch push notificationsto mobile clients, handle messaging, analytics, and other core business features.  Hands on experience with cloud  microservices architecture (e.g. AWS-EC2, AWS-Lambda or Google Cloud) for load balancing
• SQl/NoSQL Databases - Thorough understanding of NoSQL (Mongo preferred) and SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred) 
• Sharding / partitioning of databases
• Identifying and optimizing slow running queries
• Technology proficiency - Demonstrated proficiency with at least two of the following:  Node.js (JavaScript / Typescript), Go, Rust, Kubernetes or Docker
• Test Writing & Testing  - Hands-on experience writing extensive tests to ensure that the features provided are reliable.  Runs tools, debugs, trains data by utilizing load tests and monitoring system to ensure peak performance under load conditions
• Documentation - Writes thorough documentation to ensure client teams know how to use features
• Continuous Integration - Experience using continuous integration with CircleCI or equivalent
• Communication - Strong communicator 
• Startup - Experience working in a startup environment and is energized by  the agency and impact startups have to offer
• Initiative - Self-starter who loves to churn out quality code quickly and can build out complex systems fast
• Bonus:  ML/AI - Candidates with previous ML experience, AI-related development strongly preferred

Pay Equity: 

In compliance with Pay Transparency Laws, the base salary range for this role is between $135-$175K. When determining compensation, a number of factors will be considered:  skills, experience, job scope, location, and competitive compensation market data.

• Hiring Manager interview (45 minutes)
• 3 Tech Interviews - 60 minutes each
