Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Plasma Physics, Physics, or a closely related engineering field.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience in experimental plasma physics research with a demonstrated focus on magnetic confinement.
  • A track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals is expected.
  • An in-depth understanding of plasma physics principles, including magnetic confinement, plasma diagnostics, plasma heating and stability.
  • Hands-on experience with high-vacuum systems, plasma diagnostics and data acquisition.
  • Proficiency in designing and conducting plasma physics experiments.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage plasma research projects, including experimental design, execution, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Design, develop, and implement relevant plasma diagnostics for characterizing plasma parameters as needed for neutron production.
  • Conduct and analyze experimental investigations of plasma confinement, stability, and heating in magnetic confinement and other configurations.
  • Develop and apply theoretical models to understand plasma behavior in magnetic confinement systems with particular focus on electron thermal transport, RF heating, and micro-instability mitigation.
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of CW RF heating systems for plasma generation and heating within magnetic systems.
  • Collaborate with other scientists and engineers within R&D as well as external partners.
  • Prepare and present research findings at conferences, workshops and in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Mentor and guide junior researchers and technicians.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with numerical modeling and simulation of plasmas is desirable.
  • Familiarity of RF plasma heating systems.
