Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 6 months of experience in a laboratory, industrial, custodial, manufacturing, food-processing, or similarly structured work environment is required.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, safety protocols, and detailed instructions.
  • Basic familiarity with cleaning, sanitizing, or handling laboratory glassware.
  • Ability to use simple measuring, monitoring, or recording tools.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required checklists.
  • Ability to work independently after receiving required training.
  • Ability to communicate problems, unsafe conditions, and unusual findings promptly.
  • Applicants must complete a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 background investigation and may be required to complete fingerprinting, electronic background-investigation forms, and credentialing.
  • Foreign-national applicants must meet applicable federal residency requirements for credentialing.
Responsibilities
  • Weigh, measure, mix, label, and prepare laboratory media, solutions, reagents, and standards according to laboratory procedures.
  • Adjust pH and heat prepared solutions as directed.
  • Transfer prepared materials between containers and laboratory equipment.
  • Handle chemical additives using required safety precautions and prepare materials for sterilization.
  • Load and operate autoclaves to sterilize media, containers, and waste materials, then transfer sterilized items to the appropriate areas.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization and equipment-use records.
  • Assist with aseptic and non-aseptic laboratory sample preparation and remove required amounts of material from items being analyzed.
  • Prepare samples in approved containers and handle frozen, refrigerated, and room-temperature samples while preventing contamination or loss.
  • Operate food processors, blenders, homogenizers, grinders, and similar sample-preparation equipment.
  • Wash, rinse, dry, sterilize, inspect, and store laboratory glassware and containers manually and with automatic dishwashing equipment.
  • Maintain orderly glassware and supply-storage areas.
  • Collect, separate, and safely transfer contaminated, dirty, used, biological, chemical, and general laboratory waste for decontamination or disposal.
  • Use required personal protective equipment when handling waste and report spills, damaged containers, and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain clean, organized, contamination-controlled, and inspection-ready laboratory work areas.
  • Replenish cleaning materials and supplies as needed.
  • Complete routine checks of eyewash and emergency shower stations and document safety inspections.
  • Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements and FDA safety procedures.
  • Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment, report incidents and unsafe conditions, and participate in required laboratory and safety training.
  • Place temperature sensors in temperature-controlled equipment, collect monitoring data, retrieve records, compare results with acceptance criteria, and help compile temperature-mapping reports.
  • Identify out-of-range temperature readings and maintain equipment-verification logs and monitoring records.
  • Perform daily and weekly checks of deionized-water systems, including meters, tank levels, pressure gauges, indicator lights, ultraviolet lamps, brine tanks, salt levels, and residual-chlorine tests.
  • Record deionized-water monitoring results and notify laboratory personnel of irregular readings or system problems.
  • Follow written Standard Operating Procedures and laboratory instructions.
  • Complete logs, checklists, monitoring records, inventory records, equipment-verification records, and waste-management documentation accurately.
  • Report incomplete work, equipment problems, supply shortages, and safety concerns; support quality-control reviews and correct documentation or procedural issues.
  • Protect Government information, equipment, and laboratory materials.
