Requirements
  • Hold, or be eligible for, immediate licensure as an ophthalmologist in the province of Quebec
  • Have completed advanced training (e.g., subspecialty fellowship and/or advanced degree(s) such as an MPH, or equivalent)
  • Have expertise in research and demonstrated collaboration in conducting clinical studies
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate aptitude and interest in pursuing academic studies (clinical and/or basic research) and show interest in telehealth and aboriginal health
  • Take a leading role in future departmental projects such as telemedicine and advanced technical training techniques
  • Be actively involved in clinical duties, research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees as part of McGill’s academic mission
  • Develop an innovative independent research program to pursue scholarly activities, ideally externally funded
  • Contribute to service activities within their unit, the University, and the wider scholarly community
  • Demonstrate a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated Commitment to Teaching: A strong dedication to resident and fellow education, with an ability to contribute meaningfully to both clinical and academic teaching programs
  • Telemedicine and Remote Clinical Care: Oversee implementation and expansion of tele-ophthalmology services for remote diagnosis, follow-up, and triage. Develop protocols and workflows that integrate virtual tools with in-person care in Indigenous regions
  • Institutional Engagement: A willingness and ability to contribute to broader institutional goals through active participation in both academic and administrative initiatives
  • Research and Innovation: High interest in conducting applied research in Indigenous ocular health, focusing on access, outcomes, and epidemiology of vision disorders
