Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Contact prospective customers to sell water-treatment services for boilers, cooling towers, and wastewater systems.
  • Schedule appointments to explain available products and services, inspect customer water-system equipment, and prepare service estimates.
  • Obtain water samples for field analysis or send them to the home office for further analysis when needed.
  • Create analysis write-ups and contact customers to recommend treatments that control substance levels in water.
  • Explain the benefits of treatment programs and educate customers about purchasing them.
  • Attempt to resolve problems encountered with customers' water-treatment processes.
  • Sell water-treatment chemicals to customers.
  • Perform follow-up tests on water in customer water systems using a test kit, knowledge of chemical treatment, and a reference manual.
  • Explain test results to customers.
  • Observe changes in customers' water analyses and recommend the amount and type of chemical additives necessary for water treatment.
  • Promote and sell water-chemical products to potential customers.
  • Explain water-treatment package benefits and sell chemicals to treat and resolve water-process problems.
  • Estimate and advise customers of service costs to correct water-treatment process problems.
  • Monitor customer preferences and utilization to determine the focus of sales efforts and appropriate stock levels.
  • Answer customers' questions about products, prices, availability, product uses, and credit terms.
  • Emphasize product features based on analyses of customers' needs and technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations.
  • Resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service.
  • Maintain customer records using automated systems.
  • Inspect, test, and observe chemical changes in water-system equipment using a test kit, reference manual, and knowledge of chemical treatment.
  • Prepare sales contracts for obtained orders and submit orders for processing.
  • Identify prospective customers through business directories, leads from existing clients, organizations and clubs, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Complete special projects upon request and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education is preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking, persuasion, and comprehension skills are beneficial.
  • Mechanical aptitude is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the composition, structure, and properties of substances and the chemical processes and transformations they undergo, including chemical uses and interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods, is preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience working in water treatment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel is highly preferred.
