Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
  • Critical care or Advanced Cardiac Life Support as well as other certifications may be required for some Registered Nurses, unit specific
  • Current driver's license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for Bronson Ambulatory Health (BAH)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or Nursing Certification Corporation (NCC) required within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring
  • Bronson South Haven Specific: Emergency Department certifications SALT triage, ESI Triage, and NIH Stroke Scale to be completed within 90 days of hire; Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course within 6 months of hire; Special Care Unit Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire
  • For RNs in Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum at Bronson Methodist Hospital (BMH) & Bronson Battle Creek (BBC) Specific: Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification required within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring
  • Bronson South Haven Hospital and Bronson Lakeview Hospital swing bed requirements: complete Workday Competency Based Learning Swing Bed training (CBL Swing beds) and understand swing bed documentation differences
Responsibilities
  • Manage the care delivery for patients throughout their length of stay by applying the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordinate care provided by other professionals and delegate selected acts, tasks, or functions within the scope of professional nursing practice to patient care assistants and universal service assistants
  • Provide selected aspects of physical care appropriate to the patient’s acuity and complexity of care required
  • Document and communicate patient response to care, resource consumption, and anticipated needs during each tour of duty
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served when providing direct patient care
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using standards of practice including collection of comprehensive data, analysis of assessment data, and identification of patient problems
  • Develop individualized care plans with expected outcomes and coordinate discharge planning using clinical pathways and input from patient/family
  • Implement the care plan with appropriate interventions, including administration of medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Utilize evidence-based interventions and maintain patient comfort and safety
  • Initiate and coordinate patient education plans and oversee implementation
  • Evaluate progress toward expected outcomes and document patient responses
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and ongoing educational activities to maintain competency and professional development
  • Collaborate with multiple health disciplines and act as patient advocate while respecting autonomy and rights
  • Incorporate ethical considerations into practice and integrate research findings to improve patient care and practice environment
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice when planning and delivering nursing services, including appropriate task delegation
  • Provide leadership in professional practice by participating in councils and committees and maintaining a healthy work environment
  • Perform scrub duties as applicable, interpret procedure cards, anticipate needs of the surgical team, and manage case information and equipment as a scrub nurse
  • Be available for on-call on a rotational basis and fulfill additional on-call requirements for specialized departments as applicable
  • For Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital swing bed locations, complete annual Swing Bed training and align with swing bed documentation requirements
  • Understand and adapt to unit-specific standards and procedures including fetal monitoring and emergency response protocols
