Responsibilities
  • Working on projects that represent real challenges faced by 3M’s business units.
  • Taking advantage of initial and ongoing training opportunities and exposure to senior leadership.
  • Achieving specific sales objectives and forecasted targets for assigned territory or account subset.
  • Developing basic understanding of product lines, customer segments and their needs, competitive products, prices and policies.
  • Territory Management: identify territory quadrants and create a coverage plan; conduct evaluation of competitive, penetration, and retention end-user accounts; identify appropriate key contacts within end-user accounts.
  • Sales Planning: conduct thorough end-user account research; confirm scheduled appointments; establish sales call objectives; prepare questions in advance; utilize product samples and literature when appropriate.
  • Customer Focus: understand customer's organization and structure, manufacturing and distribution, brand strategy and customer
  • Selling Skills: understand the importance of listening skills within the sales process; ask probing questions to uncover customer needs; create a sense of urgency; gain objective factual information and details; determine end-user customer needs; maintain and grow customers through cross selling; maintain alignment between selling cycle and buying cycle, adjusting as required; relate relevant benefits and close the sale
  • Teamwork/Problem Solving: recognized and accepted team goal(s); demonstrated respect for and worked cooperatively with other team members; identified problems and their cause; persevered in solving problems; demonstrated a positive attitude; maintain a professional manner with customers and channel partners; displayed trust in other team members
  • Company Vehicle: This position requires driving a company vehicle, which will require pre-employment and ongoing review of motor vehicle history for candidates who are offered and hired for this position.
Desired Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Sales or Marketing from an accredited institution.
  • Completed a minimum of junior year (6 semesters) by the start of the internship.
  • Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Completion of two of the required class in the major, minor or concentration.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to analyze and solve complex problems, communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong aptitude and desire for a career in sales.

3M appoints RTX CFO Neil Mitchill to board of directors

3M has elected Neil Mitchill to its Board of Directors, effective 6 February 2026. Mitchill will serve on the Audit Committee and Nominating and Governance Committee. Mitchill is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at RTX Corporation, a position he has held since 2021. He previously held financial leadership roles at United Technologies Corporation before its 2020 merger with Raytheon Company, including stints as Acting Senior Vice President and CFO, and CFO of Pratt & Whitney. He spent 17 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers in client service and lead partner roles. 3M Chairman and CEO William Brown said Mitchill's financial expertise and strategic experience would benefit the board, shareholders and customers.

Tariffs squeeze margins at 3M, P&G and McCormick despite Q4 earnings up 14%

Following the April 2025 tariff announcement, analysts initially revised earnings estimates sharply downward. However, as tariff implementation was delayed and final rates proved lower than expected, estimates were subsequently revised upward during the first half of 2025. Major companies including 3M, Procter & Gamble and McCormick recently cited tariffs as headwinds. Procter & Gamble reported its fifth consecutive quarter of declining margins, with tariff impacts offsetting US price increases. McCormick also experienced margin pressure from tariffs. In the Q4 earnings season, 143 S&P 500 companies have reported results, showing total earnings up 14% year-over-year on 8.3% higher revenues. Some 76.9% beat earnings per share estimates whilst 55.2% exceeded revenue expectations.

3M shares drop 2.4% as earnings miss $8.61 forecast despite beating revenue estimates

Jim Cramer expressed concern about the market reaction to 3M's results, noting the company reported solid numbers under CEO Bill Brown but still saw its shares "crushed" despite trading at reasonable valuations. He warned this negative response from investors could signal broader trouble for industrial stocks during earnings season. Analysts remain divided, with Wolfe Research calling the selloff an overreaction and UBS maintaining a Buy rating with a $190 price target.
