Requirements
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Two years of experience working with Governmental Accounting Standards Board and higher education, governmental, or nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Experience preparing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles financial statements and working with external auditors.
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of current accounting and audit theories and practices.
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania college, Pennsylvania state, and federal rules, regulations, procedures, and accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board financial reporting requirements and the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Experience with financial software implementation.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interpreting policies and procedures, providing clear and concise information, and compiling complete and accurate summaries and reports.
  • Ability to make decisions using sound judgment.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in priorities and tasks.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all control functions, including general accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, debt management, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and student accounts.
  • Manage and supervise administrative staff within the accounting services department.
  • Oversee the coordination and facilitation of department training.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance employee skills, morale, performance, and retention.
  • Work with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and implement Finance and Administration policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the college's internal controls and ensure finance policies and procedures are maintained, communicated, and monitored.
  • Review processes and procedures for compliance with regulatory requirements and changes.
  • Review and analyze the general ledger and prepare and approve journal entries as needed.
  • Establish, coordinate, change, and verify the financial chart of accounts for college activities.
  • Oversee Title IV reconciliations and drawdowns and support federal reporting, including IPEDS, FISAP, and EZ-Audit, as well as grant reporting.
  • Oversee timely month-end and annual closing processes and financial statement preparation.
  • Review, analyze, and direct the processing of financial data and payroll.
  • Prepare annual financial statements and financial reporting, including general ledger maintenance, monthly reconciliations, and preparation and review of journal entries.
  • Provide detailed analyses of operating and financial results, including budget-versus-actual results and annual benchmarking of financial statements.
  • Plan and prepare for the annual financial statement audit.
  • Coordinate annual controls and financial audits and work with the Chief Financial Officer to oversee the annual audit report.
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer in supporting the Board of Trustees and Board committees, including Finance and Audit.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with financial institutions and auditors.
  • Administer the comprehensive accounting system for all college cost centers.
  • Safeguard the college's financial assets and maintain accurate financial reporting.
  • Track revenue from ancillary services.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in Accounting and/or Certified Public Accountant credential.
  • Experience with Workday, Ellucian, and Jenzabar.
