Takara Bio USA and Hamilton Company have announced a development and co-marketing agreement to automate next-generation sequencing library preparation workflows globally. The partnership will integrate Takara Bio's SMART-Seq library preparation kits with Hamilton's Microlab STAR Liquid Handling Systems. The first automated technology will be the SMART-Seq mRNA LP kit, with additional SMART-Seq products planned for automation. The collaboration aims to reduce hands-on time and errors whilst increasing throughput and reducing labour costs for laboratories, including core facilities. The pre-revenue partnership combines Takara Bio's RNA-seq chemistry with Hamilton's liquid handling automation to standardise high-throughput workflows. Takara Bio USA is sponsoring the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh from 28–31 March 2026.

Alps Dx and Hamilton Company announced the showcase of Alps Dx Atelier, an automated system for oral fluid drug testing, at the SLAS 2026 conference in Boston. Built on Hamilton's MICROLAB STARlet platform, the system automates preanalytical processing steps including barcode identification, decapping, filtration and tube capping. The system addresses inefficiencies in oral fluid testing workflows, which often rely on manual handling and inconsistent processes. Designed for the FDA-cleared Quantisal collection device, Alps Dx Atelier aims to improve sample quality, reduce turnaround times and ease staffing pressures in clinical and forensic laboratories. Alps Dx, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, develops automated technologies for oral fluid testing.
