Globe Life lags industry despite raised 2026 guidance and 11.16X P/E discount

Globe Life shares have declined 1.6% over the past month, slightly underperforming the industry's 1.3% drop. The pullback follows a modest second-quarter earnings miss, weaker health underwriting margins, and softer sales in certain distribution channels. Despite the recent decline, Globe Life trades at a discount with a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 11.16X, below the industry average of 13.82X. The company's return on equity of 20.5% exceeds the industry average of 13.3%. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2026 earnings per share indicates 8.2% year-over-year growth, with revenues expected to reach $6.40 billion, up 6.3%. Management raised 2026 earnings guidance, supported by strong health premium growth of 14%-16% and continued share repurchases. Total premium revenue increased 7% year over year in the second quarter, with health premiums rising 16%.

Globe Life reports 20% net income surge to $3.65 per share, premium revenue up 7%

Total premium revenue grew 7% year-over-year. Health premium revenue jumped 16% to $437 million, whilst life premium revenue rose 3% to $861 million. The company's return on equity reached 18.4% through 30 June. Globe Life returned $200 million to shareholders during the quarter, repurchasing approximately 1.1 million shares at an average price of $154.28. The firm raised its net operating earnings guidance for 2026 to $15.55-$15.95 per diluted share, representing 8.5% growth at the midpoint. Globe Life shares drop 7.2% despite meeting Q2 earnings expectations

Globe Life shares fell 7.1% after the insurance company reported second-quarter earnings that met Wall Street's estimates but failed to impress investors. Revenue rose 6.7% year on year to $1.6 billion, roughly in line with expectations. Net premiums earned matched forecasts at $1.30 billion, whilst earnings per share of $3.65 narrowly beat the $3.64 estimate. However, the quarter lacked upside surprises needed to drive the stock higher. The market's negative reaction likely reflected broader concerns over the company's fundamentals, including tepid 4.8% annualised revenue growth over the past five years and historical declines in book value per share. Despite the drop, Globe Life remains up 23.5% year-to-date.

The company's longer-term performance shows tepid growth, with annualised revenue increasing 4.8% over the past five years. This rate remained consistent over the last two years at 4.6%. Net premiums earned constituted 81% of Globe Life's total revenue during the last five years. The company, which rebranded from Torchmark Corporation in 2019, offers life insurance, supplemental health insurance, and annuity products through various distribution channels.
