Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and 10 years of related financial experience, including management experience.
  • Ability to provide innovative leadership in a dynamic environment and to work collaboratively with multiple constituents.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply, interpret, and implement Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting systems.
  • Advanced analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
Responsibilities
  • Drive financial results by collaborating with and leading departments through accurate standardized reporting to meet strategic goals.
  • Coordinate with the controller's team to ensure the integrity of financial data and reporting processes, and provide leadership in implementing best practices for financial management.
  • Provide recommendations for strategy, vision, and direction by analyzing existing systems and processes, identifying needs for new systems, and developing proposals for improvements.
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement, adapt to dynamic environments, drive critical initiatives, and identify enhancement opportunities.
  • Collaborate in major process redesign and innovation projects as a business owner, developing and implementing critical initiatives.
  • Serve as a key technical resource for the Dean's Office, department chairs, administrators, and the finance group by providing coaching, training, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Create and review financial reporting and dashboards for the School of Medicine and primary departments within the Woodruff Health Science Center.
  • Report to the CFO of the School of Medicine and manage complex accounting and control functions, including financial reporting and automated systems development.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of effective information systems by identifying user needs and ensuring operations are accurate, complete, and efficient.
  • Develop system and procedure requirements to support organizational reporting and assist in preparing financial statements for internal and external surveys in compliance with official guidelines.
  • Assist in planning, directing, and monitoring budgeting, projections and forecasts, and financial reporting for assigned areas.
  • Review accounting data for accuracy, identify and resolve problems, and ensure corrections are made to meet deadlines.
  • Evaluate computer and software needs, suggest system modifications, and determine resource availability.
  • Review the preparation of financial statements and analyze them to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Prepare interim and annual financial results and design frameworks for timely, accurate reporting.
  • Serve as a key technical resource on financial matters for the Dean's Office, department chairs, and administrators, providing guidance as needed.
  • Drive continuous critical analysis of existing systems and processes and identify opportunities for new systems.
  • Produce or review ad hoc financial reports and analyses to support decision-making.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in fund accounting and financial reporting.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies and their application to university information systems, along with experience in auditing and internal controls.
