Requirements
  • A BS with 8 or more years of relevant experience or an MS with 6 or more years of relevant experience is required, preferably in biotechnology settings.
  • Hands-on aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture experience with immortalized and primary cell lines are required.
  • End-to-end cell-based assay development experience, including conception, optimization, troubleshooting, and routine execution, is required.
  • Strong molecular biology and biochemistry experience is required, including RNA and protein isolation from cells and tissues and quantitative gene- and protein-expression analysis.
  • Experience with oligonucleotide modalities and delivery systems such as transfection, free uptake, lipid nanoparticles, and conjugates is required.
  • Experience supporting in vivo pharmacology through target engagement, pharmacodynamic, and translational biomarker analyses is required.
  • Fluency in accessing and synthesizing omics datasets, including RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, metabolomics, and proteomics, is required.
  • Experience establishing previously nonexistent laboratory methods, assays, or capabilities, including documentation and training, is required.
  • The candidate must be able to identify problems, propose approaches, and execute with limited supervision.
  • The candidate must be process- and detail-oriented and able to perform independently in the laboratory.
  • A degree in a relevant discipline such as pharmacology, physiology, or cell and molecular biology is required.
Responsibilities
  • Establish the company’s cell-culture capability using primary and stem-cell-derived cells, directed differentiation, and readouts of maturation and functional states.
  • Design, develop, and run reproducible in vitro assays for oligonucleotides and conjugates, quantifying target engagement and pharmacodynamic effects across delivery formats and characterizing dose-response for conjugate optimization.
  • Build an assay toolkit for hit profiling, including uptake, internalization, and trafficking assays for conjugate-mediated delivery.
  • Establish tissue-processing techniques and ex vivo pharmacodynamic and efficacy analyses for in vivo studies, including RNA and protein extraction from difficult tissues.
  • Run readouts on samples returned from contract research organization studies and contribute to the ex vivo analytical plan.
  • Partner with analytical chemistry on bioanalytical method development for oligonucleotide and conjugate quantitation and deliver tissue-exposure and biodistribution data for pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic interpretation.
  • Develop and implement translational biomarker assays that track pharmacodynamic effects, target engagement, and early efficacy into development.
  • Introduce new methods, technologies, and vendors when existing approaches are insufficient, and operationalize documented, controlled, transferable assays with defined controls, acceptance criteria, and performance tracking.
  • Help build the laboratory through procurement, installation, and equipment qualification.
  • Train future team members and maintain data-management, inventory, standard operating procedure, assay-protocol, and electronic-lab-notebook records.
  • Work with the Director, in vivo pharmacology lead, delivery scientists, and chemists to keep in vitro and ex vivo readouts timely and controlled and contribute scientific interpretation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with differentiation or stem-cell-derived systems is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with histology and in situ tissue analysis, including sectioning, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, microscopy, and quantitative image analysis, is a plus.
  • Some coding experience for larger-dataset analysis using R or Python is a plus.

AusperBio raises $120M Series C to advance hepatitis B therapy towards commercialisation

AusperBio Therapeutics has closed a $120 million Series C financing round to advance its lead hepatitis B therapy, AHB-137, towards commercialisation. The financing was led by an unnamed strategic investor, with participation from new investor RA Capital Management and existing backers including HanKang Capital and Qiming Venture Partners. The proceeds will support AHB-137's Phase 3 registrational programme and commercialisation readiness. Funds will also accelerate development of AHB-171, the company's investigational siRNA candidate, and advance combination therapies for chronic hepatitis B. With this round, AusperBio has raised $360 million since 2024. The San Francisco-based biotech is developing oligonucleotide therapeutics targeting chronic hepatitis B, which affects an estimated 254 million people worldwide. AHB-137 is currently being evaluated in a Phase 3 trial in China.
