Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or a Pharm.D. degree is required.
  • A Master’s degree or Master of Business Administration degree is preferred.
  • An active Florida pharmacist license must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience with demonstrated expertise is required.
  • The candidate must communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • The candidate must maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • The candidate must manage a budget and work within its constraints.
  • The candidate must direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • The candidate must effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others.

Responsibilities
  • Direct, implement, coordinate, plan, and evaluate the department or division’s business operations, including statistical, performance, and managerial reporting, decision and budget support, capital planning, and process improvement.
  • Develop and ensure adherence to the department’s annual budget in accordance with University guidelines and policies.
  • Participate in financial analysis and planning, including monitoring and reporting monthly budget variances and identifying opportunities to improve performance.
  • Advance the strategic financial plan and recommend to senior management how best to execute the department’s plan.
  • Formulate department policies and guidelines to carry out the University and department mission.
  • Oversee the review, approval, and reporting of all expenditures.
  • Review and approve financial transactions.
  • Create and manage support systems to ensure the availability of cost-effective supplies, equipment, and management information.
  • Monitor contractual obligations and ensure consistency with the departmental budget, goals, and programmatic initiatives.
  • Evaluate internal controls and approval processes and recommend improvements to fiscal integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Implement department human resources actions, including hiring, terminations, and salary actions.
  • Recruit, train, and prepare performance reports for staff.
  • Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensure employees are trained on controls and University policies and procedures.
  • Lead initiatives with clinical and non-clinical committees to standardize suppliers, product utilization, and contracting.
  • Collaborate with local systems, system office departments, and other pharmacy management work units to identify, analyze, decide, and implement leading practices and expense management initiatives.
  • Determine specifications for the shared contracting service process.
  • Identify sources for the shared contracting service process.
  • Integrate the contracting process.
  • Ensure institutional policy, including signatory authority, is followed.
  • Optimize group purchasing.
  • Ensure contract compliance.
  • Procure supplies, medications, services, and equipment.
  • Manage the number of suppliers.
  • Optimize supplier relationships.
  • Resolve payment issues.
  • Optimize technology.
  • Resolve internal customer and supplier issues and prevent future occurrences.
