Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • The employee must be able to read, speak, and hear English.
  • The employee must frequently stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and squat for approximately 60% of the workday.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to push residents weighing up to 250 pounds in gerichairs and/or wheelchairs.
  • The employee must be able to sit and walk intermittently throughout the day.
  • The employee may be exposed to communicable diseases, chemicals, offensive odors, and combative behavior.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and coordinating activities, including reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, outings, special events, and one-on-one visits.
  • Help prepare and distribute the monthly calendar and newsletter.
  • Assist in purchasing supplies for activities as needed.
  • Distribute mail to residents daily.
  • Direct the movement of residents to and from recreational areas.
  • Announce scheduled activities over the intercom at least fifteen minutes before each activity.
  • Coordinate and supervise volunteer activities, including training and support.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of resident activity attendance.
  • Plan and coordinate activities in the absence of the Activity Coordinator.
  • Attend assigned in-service training and education sessions.
  • Perform specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of experience in a social or recreational program in a licensed healthcare setting is preferred.
  • A background in music, art, drama, or dance therapy is preferred.
