Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
  • One year of full-time experience or three years of part-time, paid, or voluntary experience as a student trainer.
  • Certification by the Board of Certification of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
  • Ability to sit for a State of Texas license to practice athletic training.
  • Computer skills.
  • Medical and first aid skills.
  • Joint taping and physical therapy skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate injuries of Texas A&M University athletes.
  • Tape athletes, place braces, and prepare student-athletes for practices and games of assigned sports.
  • Attend and supervise student-athletes at practices and games for preventive and emergency care.
  • Travel with assigned teams as directed and required.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Athletics Director of Sports Nutrition regarding meals and supplements for student-athletes.
  • Chart and maintain records of student-athlete injuries using current record-keeping systems and protocols.
  • Coordinate and consult with physicians, student-athletes, and medical facilities regarding healthcare.
  • Consult with coaches and parents regarding student-athlete healthcare.
  • Assist in managing student athletic trainer apprenticeship education and sport scheduling.
  • Assist in maintaining and supervising the athletic training room, equipment, and supply inventory.
  • Maintain familiarity with and enforce applicable NCAA, Southeastern Conference, and Texas A&M University rules and regulations for supervised staff members and student workers.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • Automatic external defibrillator certification.
