Requirements
  • Hold an approved Medical Assistant certification, such as Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants, Registered Medical Assistant from American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from the National Healthcare Association, National Certified Medical Assistant from NHA-NCCT, or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant from NAHP.
  • If not holding an approved Medical Assistant certification, provide proof of completion from an approved educational program and sign an agreement to obtain a nationwide or statewide Medical Assistant certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers.
  • Hold Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continuing Education certification.
  • Have a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Work independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and Infection Control guidelines.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain vital signs and patient information, including medical and surgical history, medications, and allergies, for inclusion in patient medical records.
  • Administer injections and treatments, perform routine laboratory tests, and assist with patient care activities such as dressing changes, leg wraps, suture and staple removal, drain removal, and minor office procedures using sterile techniques.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and supplies for patient examinations and visits.
  • Assist physicians with physical examinations by handing instruments and materials as directed.
  • Provide patients with basic instructions and information regarding examinations, tests, and surgeries.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments while observing sterile technique.
  • Schedule patients for tests and complete required laboratory forms.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies.
  • Escort and transport patients to various hospital locations.
  • Assist with patient flow in the clinic.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed, including phone calls, faxes, emails, and messages.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
