Responsibilities
  • Complete legal assignments involving litigation, legal research, drafting legal documents, and interpreting laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Prosecute misdemeanor cases in assigned court.
  • Manage the assigned court and court schedules, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Train and assist in training less experienced misdemeanor prosecutors.
  • Evaluate assigned cases or lawsuits by reviewing documentation, conducting legal research on applicable law, interviewing witnesses or persons with knowledge of the case, gathering evidence, and determining the most appropriate actions.
  • Draft, file, and respond to motions, briefs, and other legal documents for trials and hearings.
  • Explain the legal process to potential witnesses, prepare witnesses for court testimony, and keep clients or victims and their families informed of case status.
  • Gather, prepare, and present evidence, exhibits, and related materials for trials or hearings.
  • Represent the State and clients in trials and hearings by conducting jury selection, presenting opening statements, conducting direct and cross-examinations of witnesses, and presenting closing arguments.
  • Participate in settlement or plea-bargain negotiations.
  • Prepare legal documents when settlement or plea-bargain agreements are reached, secure signatures, and file documents as required.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the court judge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
