Former BBC chief Davie stages corporate return with FGS Global and Mediawan roles. Wednesday, 2 September 2026 09:44 By Mark Kleinman, City editor Tim Davie, the former BBC director-general, is returning to the private sector with roles at a pair of companies backed by KKR, one of the world's largest investment firms. Sky News has learnt that Mr Davie, who left the corporation in April after six years at the helm, is to become a partner at FGS Global, the New York-based public relations adviser which counts dozens of blue-chip British companies among its clients. His appointment at the firm, whose UK operations were founded by the financial PR executive Roland Rudd, was announced on Wednesday morning to senior staff, according to insiders. Mr Davie is also understood to be making a swift reappearance in the media industry with a position on the board of Mediawan, the European film and television production group. Mediawan, the producer of shows such as Call My Agent! and The Count Of Monte Cristo, and FGS Global are both part-owned by KKR, the US-listed private equity giant which has backed a string of British-based companies, including Boots The Chemist, over the last 25 years. Mr Davie is already said to have taken up his post on the board of Mediawan, which acquired Brad Pitt's production company Plan B Entertainment in 2022. Friends of the former BBC chief said he was also working on a number of other projects, including a forthcoming non-fiction book which is not thought to be an account of his time running the public service broadcaster. Responding to an enquiry from Sky News, Mr Davie said: "I am excited to be supporting the outstanding team at FGS who have delivered such strong growth in recent years. "Their strategic advisory services are needed more than ever as companies navigate a fast-moving, complex and uncertain world." "It is also a joy to be helping Mediawan. "It is a fast-growing global production business with outstanding IP, great shows and a superb team." Mr Davie was also appointed earlier this year by ministers as co-chair of the Creative Industries Council, alongside the Labour peer and businesswoman Baroness Vadera, who will step down at the end of the year. From January, he will become sole industry chair, working alongside the culture secretary, Lisa Nandy, and Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds. Mr Davie's new positions will come as little surprise given their locus in the media and business arenas. During his time running the BBC, he sought to accelerate the corporation's transition to a digitally led future by increasing investment in its iPlayer platform. He also placed a greater emphasis on growing its commercial arm, BBC Studios, through content production and distribution in a bid to diversify the BBC's funding base. One ally of Mr Davie pointed out that the BBC's commercial revenues had nearly doubled during his tenure to around £2bn. However, his tenure at the BBC was also punctuated by controversies over the conduct of high-profile presenters such as the Masterchef host Gregg Wallace and newsreader Huw Edwards. The director-general's resignation last November came amid a furore over Panorama's editing of a speech by US President Donald Trump, which purported to show him inciting violence on 6 January 2021 - the day that some of his supporters attacked Congress. A former PepsiCo brand and marketing executive, Mr Davie told a Royal Television Society audience shortly before his departure from the BBC of the "frankly brutal financial situation" confronting the licence fee-funded broadcaster. However, he sought to project a bright future for the BBC, whose reach and reputation, he said, were unrivalled anywhere in the world. "Our vision is simple: to be the only market-leading public service media organisation globally. In a club of one. Growing not declining. Our best days ahead of us," he said. Mr Davie joined the BBC in 2005 as director of marketing and audiences, and had his first taste of running one of the world's most significant media organisations in 2012, when he became acting director-general following the departure of George Entwistle. He took on the post on a permanent basis in 2020. Mr Davie's successor at the BBC, the former Google executive Matt Brittin, will now spearhead talks with the government over the future of the licence fee as part of the review of its Royal Charter. The new chief, who told MPs in July that the UK needed a "sovereign platform" to compete with streamers such as Netflix, is also in the midst of culling thousands of jobs as part of efforts to save significant sums of money each year.
