Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food, Nutrition or Dietetics, required.
  • Registered Dietitian, required.
  • Current Diabetes Educator Certification, required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible, related experience to ensure familiarity with scope of program.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, required.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
Responsibilities
  • Leads, plans and conducts nutritional programs to assist in the promotion of health and control of disease.
  • Oversees the assessment of nutritional needs and provides nutritional counseling to assigned clients/patients.
  • Considers patients' cultural, educational, and learning issues.
  • Plans individualized nutrition education to patients, their families, and/or significant others based on their needs assessment.
  • Serves as a resource on nutrition and dietetics to nurses, health educators or other health care providers in the facility.
  • Ensures communication of patient information to referring providers and appropriate staff in a timely manner.
  • Ensures documentation of nutrition information discussed, written materials provided, and evaluation of patient’s receptiveness and comprehension of the education provided.
  • Participates in professional meetings and conferences.
  • Performs related duties as required.
