Requirements
  • Minimum BSc in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in high-speed board design, leveraging deep signal integrity/power integrity understanding and ability to take at least two products from inception to launch
  • Proficient with at least one ECAD tool (Cadence OrCAD, Altium, etc.)
  • Proficient in hands on trouble shooting, problem solving and critical thinking (making logical decisions based on data collected)
  • Proficient in using lab equipment and debugging tools, such as oscilloscope, logic analyzer and multimeters
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team of electrical, software, systems, and mechanical engineers
  • Experience with design controls, preferably in the medical device industry
  • Experience in IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IC 60601-2-18, and IEC 60601-2-2 is preferred
  • Experience with Analog circuits and microcontroller hardware and software is preferred
  • Experience in a work environment with rapid growth and quick scope changes is desired
  • 1+ years of Mentorship/Leadership experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Travel Requirements: Less than 10%
Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, and develop digital electronics design within Smith+Nephew medical products including high speed, multilayer circuit boards; create and review schematics; own component selection based on requirements; lead interoperability between boards based on electrical system architecture; understand and provide input to system power requirements
  • Collaborate with FPGA and software designers to support FPGA and on-board processor connectivity and functionality
  • Conduct technical design reviews as needed
  • Bring-up of prototype circuit boards; develop test protocols and fixtures; document results of testing and failure analysis
  • Provide technical support to other groups to bring a product through commercialization; maintain existing products and support vendor technical questions
  • Coordinate and support electrical safety (IEC/UL 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-2, IEC 60601-2-18) and EMC (IEC60601-1-2) certification testing
  • Perform design control functions to ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and other regulatory bodies
  • Participate in ownership of Design History Files, writing specifications and test documents (protocols/reports) as needed
  • Lead/Mentor Junior engineers as required
  • Investigate new technologies that could be used in future products

Smith & Nephew reports $6.2B revenue with 5.3% growth and 53% jump in free cash flow

Smith & Nephew reported strong full-year 2025 results, with revenue of $6.2 billion representing 5.3% underlying growth and 6.1% reported growth. Fourth-quarter revenue reached $1.7 billion, growing 6.2% on an underlying basis. The medical device company achieved 160 basis points of margin expansion, with trading profit of $1.2 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $1.02, up 21%. Free cash flow increased 52.5% year-on-year to $840 million, enabling completion of a $500 million share buyback programme. Innovation drove over 60% of growth, with products launched in the past five years delivering double-digit growth across all business units. For 2026, the company expects 6% organic revenue growth and 8% trading profit growth to around $1.3 billion, though it faces headwinds from Chinese pricing reforms and US reimbursement changes.

Smith+Nephew acquires Integrity Orthopaedics for $225M plus $225M in performance payments

Smith+Nephew has acquired Integrity Orthopaedics for an initial $225 million cash payment, plus up to $225 million in performance-based payments over five years. The deal strengthens Smith+Nephew's sports medicine portfolio with the Tendon Seam rotator cuff repair technology. Founded in 2020, Integrity Orthopaedics developed the innovative system to address high failure rates in traditional rotator cuff repairs. The technology uses patented micro-anchors and continuous suture designed to deliver stronger repairs and lower re-tear rates. Early clinical results show reduced pain and shorter recovery times. The rotator cuff repair market performs approximately 500,000 procedures annually in the US, valued at $875 million. The acquisition, expected to close by end of January 2026, will be financed from existing cash facilities and is expected to be accretive to trading profit margin by 2028.
