  • Professional experience or training in counseling, domestic violence, economically disadvantaged populations, or other social issues is preferred.
  • A work history demonstrating the ability to establish rapport with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds is preferred.
  • Ability to use a personal computer with a mouse and keyboard, including familiarity with Windows and Microsoft products.
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • An undergraduate degree in social work, social services, or another related field is preferred.
  • Relevant experience working with victims of domestic violence is preferred.
  • A Class C driver's license, motor vehicle, and insurance are required.
  • Ability to perform the physical and sensory functions required for the role, including occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds, moving through multilevel facilities with stairs, operating equipment, and frequently communicating verbally.
Responsibilities
  • Receive incoming shelter calls, respond to inquiries, and determine appropriate action.
  • Receive prospective clients, determine eligibility for services, admit eligible clients through established procedures, and refer ineligible prospects to other agencies or programs as appropriate.
  • Clean and prepare rooms for incoming clients.
  • Provide assistance and support for shelter clients and children.
  • Support and advise clients in achieving goals related to a new lifestyle and collaborate with staff to follow recommended treatment plans.
  • Supervise and assist clients with day-to-day requirements, inform clients of shelter guidelines, and enforce those guidelines.
  • Manage daily shelter operations, including security tape and security-system monitoring, maintain shelter safety, and respond appropriately to issues as they arise.
  • Prepare, serve, and clean up meals and record meals in the menu book.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shelter common areas, restrooms, and offices.
  • Complete shelter laundry, ensure clean linens are available, and monitor and maintain cleaning and general office supply inventory.
  • Receive and acknowledge shelter donations.
  • Refer domestic violence victims to Harbor House Outreach and community services when necessary.
  • Record incident reports and work orders in the Catholic Charities computer system.
  • Attend domestic violence training required by KCSDV and Catholic Charities Wichita.
  • Enter program demographics and service data into the Catholic Charities computer system.
  • Perform other related assigned duties.
