Requirements
  • Four years of experience with case management, business office, admissions, or medical records is required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Two years of experience with admitting procedures and insurance providers is required.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain and foster effective public relations with patients, families, referral sources, third-party payors, and staff.
  • Answer phone calls relating to registration, scheduling, charges, and accounts.
  • Collaborate with clinicians regarding admission processes, conferences, documentation, and reimbursement issues.
  • Verify benefits and pre-certify all outpatient admissions with insurance carriers, enter information into account notes, and assist in obtaining authorizations as needed.
  • Assess alternative payment arrangements and explain co-payments to patients and families before admission.
  • Track Medicare certifications and recertifications for physician signature and authorization.
  • Coordinate assignment of new admissions; register, re-register, and discharge patients from the system; and compile and distribute charts to therapists.
  • Maintain staff schedules, run charges daily, and audit charge functions daily and monthly.
  • Track, collect, and document patient co-pays and prepare co-pays and reports for transport to KBOS.
  • Track, document, and coordinate therapy-cap limits with patients and therapists.
  • Serve as the financial liaison between the business office, reimbursement coordinator, and patients or families.
  • Audit daily discharge and re-admit reports to ensure all patient charts are accounted for; compile, organize, and prepare medical records for transport and scanning.
  • Maintain the flowboard for active and discharged patient charts and keep records of charts sent to medical records.
  • Participate in account audits and appeals.
  • Perform data collection, trending, and reporting of departmental statistics and information as assigned.
  • Edit payroll for staff as assigned.
  • Maintain departmental files and records for budget reports, invoices, and timesheets.
  • Provide continuing education for staff regarding regulatory and payor policy changes and maintain expert status in these areas.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards; complete required annual education assignments; work toward goals and objectives; and participate in quality-improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
