Nissan recalls over 51K SUVs after software defect causes dashboard screens to fail.

Nissan recalls over 51K SUVs after software defect causes dashboard screens to fail. Nissan is recalling more than 51,000 Kicks SUVs because a software defect can cause the dashboard display to go partially or completely blank, potentially preventing drivers from seeing critical vehicle information. The recall affects 51,598 model year 2025-2026 Nissan Kicks vehicles manufactured between June 24, 2024, and Jan. 9, 2026, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Nissan said a software logic error within the vehicle's combination meter, or instrument cluster, can trigger a communication failure between electronic controllers during a cold startup. If that occurs, the display screen may show a partial image, a blue screen or go completely blank. The malfunction can prevent warning lights, indicators and other safety-related information from appearing on the dashboard, causing the vehicles to fall out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101 governing vehicle controls and displays. NISSAN RECALLING OVER 26,000 VEHICLES DUE TO DOOR ISSUE THAT COULD INCREASE RISK OF CRASH "If the combi-meter display cannot show safety related telltales and indicators, the driver may unknowingly operate the vehicle in an unsafe condition, increasing the risk of a crash," Nissan said in its filing with federal regulators. Nissan identified seven technical reports and 205 warranty claims related to the issue between October 2024 and April 2026, though the company said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries connected to the defect. The automaker said it first became aware of the issue after receiving a field report involving a 2025 Nissan Kicks with a blank display screen at startup. Although technicians initially could not duplicate the problem, diagnostic trouble codes related to the instrument cluster and communication systems were stored in the vehicle. NISSAN ISSUES MASSIVE RECALL AS FAULTY PART THREATENS ENGINE FAILURE Over the following months, Nissan and supplier Continental investigated additional reports involving intermittent blank or blue-screen displays. Engineers ultimately traced the issue to an integrated-circuit malfunction that can disrupt communication within the instrument cluster, causing the display to go blank. The recall affects one of Nissan's newer U.S. models and comes as automakers continue to grapple with software-related defects that have become an increasingly common source of vehicle recalls. NISSAN INCREASES JOB CUTS TO 20K BY 2027 To fix the problem, dealers will update the combination meter software at no cost to owners. The repair is expected to take about 30 minutes. Dealer notifications began May 22, while owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed beginning July 1. Vehicle owners can contact Nissan customer service at 800-647-7261 and reference recall number PMA66. FOX Business has reached out to Nissan for additional comment on the matter.

LG Energy patent suit puts Chinese EV battery supplier at risk.

LG Energy patent suit puts Chinese EV battery supplier at risk. South Korea's LG Energy Solution filed an injunction against Volvo Car Korea over batteries used in the EX30, in a move targeting Chinese supplier Sunwoda for alleged patent infringement. Through patent partner Tulip Innovation, LG also asked Korea's Trade Commission to investigate alleged unfair trade practices. Tulip filed a similar injunction in Germany against Nissan over the Qashqai hybrid SUV and earlier won a ruling there that imposed a Sunwoda sales ban and ordered recalls over the same patent. The dispute centers on a patent covering an electrode assembly structure using a coated separator in EV and energy storage batteries. Food for thought. Implications, context, and why it matters. LG Energy's court wins in Germany have led to sales bans plus recall and destruction orders. * German rulings against Sunwoda included a sales ban plus an order to recall and destroy remaining infringing batteries in the company's direct or indirect possession 1. * LG Energy Solution, working through patent partner Tulip Innovation, has won three separate cases in Germany. The Munich Regional Court issued injunctions in May 2025, followed by a third injunction in July 2025 2. * The decisions covered prismatic batteries (a rectangular battery format) used in the Dacia Spring electric vehicle. LG Energy Solution's stock rose 8.47% after the third verdict 3. Automakers have become the front line in the battery patent dispute. * LG Energy Solution has filed injunctions in Germany that involve carmakers such as Volvo Car Korea and Nissan, expanding the fight across the EV supply chain 4. * This approach raises the stakes for automakers that use the allegedly infringing cells, with potential vehicle sales disruptions if licensing gaps remain. * Tulip also describes the lawsuits as a way to set up a licensing market. The firm says it wants to discuss broad licenses under the portfolio with all companies active in lithium-ion battery manufacturing 2. * Industry sources cited by the Korea Herald say Sunwoda sits at the center of the effort, while actions against automakers support patent enforcement 4. Nissan's new Navara shows the kind of midsize truck fight america used to understand.

Nissan's new Navara shows the kind of midsize truck fight america used to understand. Mileta Kadovic Sun, March 22, 2026 at 10:30 AM PDT On one of the toughest pickup markets in the world, where durability and dependability matter more than headline power figures, the new Nissan Navara has finally reached dealer showrooms across Australia. That puts Nissan back into direct competition with established players like the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Isuzu D-Max, while also forcing it to fight a growing wave of Chinese brands moving aggressively into the segment. Nissan has now formally launched the new Navara in Australia, with nationwide dealer availability beginning in March 2026. The new Navara, known internally as the D27, was unveiled late in 2025 and developed specifically for Australia and New Zealand. The interesting twist is that Mitsubishi is building it, because the truck is directly based on the latest Mitsubishi Triton. That relationship makes it one of the clearest examples yet of how deeply Japanese automakers are now cooperating in the work truck segment. Nissan itself has openly confirmed the new Navara's connection to the Triton platform and its market-specific engineering focus for Australia and New Zealand. One engine across the lineup. Under the hood, the formula is simple. Every version uses the same 2.4-liter twin-turbo diesel four-cylinder paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Nissan rates it at 204 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque, which is a modest increase over the previous generation but still enough for serious work. More importantly, the truck keeps the numbers buyers in this segment care about most, including a maximum braked towing capacity of 7,716 pounds and a payload of more than 2,200 pounds on selected trims. That tells you a lot about Nissan's priorities here. The company is not trying to reinvent the midsize pickup. It is trying to refine the proven formula and make sure the truck can still do the real work buyers expect. In Australia, that matters more than chasing flashy spec sheet bragging rights. Australian tuning is one of the big selling points. One of the most important features of the new generation is its locally tuned suspension. Nissan worked with Melbourne engineering firm Premcar to develop three separate suspension calibrations for different trims and use cases. The SL and ST are aimed more directly at work duty, while the ST X is meant to balance daily driving and lifestyle use. At the top of the range, the PRO 4X leans more heavily into adventure and off-road driving with all-terrain tires and more specialized setup choices. Nissan says Premcar tested the truck across the full range of conditions, including unladen driving, full payload, towing, urban use, and off-road terrain. The hardware changes go further than suspension alone. The new Navara adds electric power steering for the first time, along with two different four-wheel drive systems. Lower trims use easy 4WD, while higher versions get super 4WD with a Torsen limited slip center differential, hill descent control, and as many as seven drive modes covering surfaces from pavement to sand and rock. Nissan also quotes a ground clearance of 9.0 inches, which helps explain why the truck is being positioned as more capable off-pavement than before. Pricing shows Nissan is taking the fight seriously. In Australia, the new Navara starts at A$53,348 before on-road costs, which works out to roughly $34,600 in U.S. dollars at current exchange rates. Drive-away pricing starts at A$58,010, or about $37,700. At the top end, the PRO 4X pushes well beyond A$60,000 depending on final specifications and market costs, which places it squarely in the thick of one of the most competitive truck segments Nissan faces anywhere. With this generation, Nissan is not trying to rewrite the rulebook. It is trying to sharpen it. The new Navara keeps the work truck fundamentals intact, adds more modern technology, and leans heavily on local Australian engineering to make its case. In a segment where buyers tend to reward proven toughness more than bold experimentation, that may be exactly the right strategy.
