Job Details:
Purpose
Conduct basic and applied research in defense-related disciplines such as underwater acoustics, sonar performance modeling, signal processing, target tracking, and statistical modeling in the Signal and Information Sciences Laboratory (SISL) at ARL:UT.
Responsibilities
Conduct analysis, modeling, and data processing in various disciplines such as underwater acoustics, sonar performance modeling, signal and information processing, and spectral analysis.
Contribute to algorithm development and software improvements through fundamental and applied research, prototyping, validation, integration, etc. Support performance evaluations and the transition of algorithms into production systems.
Convey the results of scientific research to sponsors and the scientific community through briefings, technical reports, discussions, and scholarly works. Engage with collaborators and sponsors to develop and maintain productive relationships and support development efforts.
Support team research efforts through collaboration on technical work, group discussions & planning, and sharing of expertise & feedback on ongoing efforts

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, math, computer or information sciences, or related technical area.
Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar abstract language.
Demonstrated proficiency in signal processing.
Demonstrated ability in scientific algorithm development, scientific modeling and/or data analysis.
Dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies and continue learning & developing skills outside of core expertise area, including staying abreast of cutting-edge research and technology in relevant fields.
Effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and sound scientific judgment, able to propose research questions and design experiments as needed.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member with and without daily supervision, work several overlapping projects over a short period of time, ability to work within an environment with rapidly changing priorities, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.
US Citizen: Subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years of prior research work experience, especially in DoD-related applications.
Two or more years of applied programming with MATLAB, Python, or C++, additional preference if in the areas of scientific algorithm development, modeling and simulation, and/or scientific data analysis.
Additional experience in the areas mentioned in the required qualifications.
Experience with technical areas of interest, including: sonar or radar processing and analysis; signal processing, time-frequency analysis, and/or sensing systems; underwater acoustics, physical modeling, and/or wave propagation; detection, localization, tracking and classification algorithms and applications; applied mathematics, uncertainty modeling, state estimation, information fusion, and/or statistics.
Experience developing in a Linux environment.
Cumulative GPA of 3.0, with a 3.5 in major coursework.
Eligibility for immediate access to classified information.

Salary Range
$88,500-$120,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications
